The sizing wasn't very good. According to my son's measurements and the sizing guide provided he should have fitted into a 14 with some adjustment required on the length. But, the waist and the crotch were too tight and I was able to find a different brand elsewhere that had a more comfortable fit. My son found the material used for these trousers was uncomfortable.
Suggest that an adjustable elastic at the waist would be helpful

Smart trousers which wash well and keep their shape. Belt ensures a great fit.

I bought age 10 long. Inside leg length is 65cm and waist is 64cm which is approximately that given in the size guide. More fool me - I should have checked. While the extra length was perfect the waist was huge! If you have a skinny son don't bother to buy these. With a waist of 55cm my son would need age 6 (which probably end at his knees)! Please, John Lewis will you stock school trousers for skinny boys?

I don't know if the 5 star ratings relate to an earlier better made product. Within 24 hours the back seam had ripped apart. I have not had that problem with either of my son's uniform before. I cannot understand why they skimp on the seams and fabric quality but go the the trouble of nice tailored details such as zips on the front pocket (most useful). Ditch the tacky belt and up the quality. Also please put in more measurement details. Kids are so much taller etc it's frustrating getting the right fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by shrubbery finally trousers that fit
I have a very slim, very tall 13 year old and at last have found trousers that fit without the wretched elastic waist. Well made, washes well, and it fits!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by kinell2002 the description is inadequate
though the trousers are good and fit the description we were unable to find any proper sizes except eg boys age 14 long
since there is an enormous variation in the size of 14 year olds having the waist size and inside leg would be a great help
we had to send ours back to get a different size and had of course to pay the postage

These are good trousers for school wear but the crotch has needed repair on every pair I have bought. I wish John Lewis would sew a reinforced crotch then they would be worth the price.

Good quality trousers but I have re-sewn the crotch twice in three weeks, I suspect this is to do with my son wearing them too low! I would recommend them, good fabric & no need to iron if hung straight from the washing machine.
