Poor Quality I've had two of these so far. Both had consistent errors. System freezes when an ipod is docked. Only button that works when alarm goes off is the on/off (cannot switch stations or volume). The screen also dims as time goes by...to the point that even in pitch black i could just about make out the time!!! (these were same for both units i had) Sound quality was pretty decent but only useful if the thing works. When I took it back the sales rep acknowledged that this is a product for which they have had many returns and refunded it without question. Excellent service (as usual), decent sound but poor build quality 02 March 2013

Total failure Like several other reviewers I was impressed by the spec this product offered, but was very soon disappointed when I got the product home. It failed almost immediately, with the time freezing after it had only run for 10 minutes. It did this repeatedly despite several power cycles and attempt to do a factory reset. An alarm clock without a working clock is not much use, so I returned it for a full refund. As usual John Lewis Service was great, and I was refunded without any question. The staff seemed to know that this model is problematic but were too polite/well trained to actually say so. The cover was blown though when the person behind me also got out a Carbon DAB radio which had failed completely. In my opinion it would be better for their reputation for John Lewis to totally remove this product from sale. 07 February 2013

Failure I was really happy when I first got this clock as a present. It looks very sleek and was just what I was looking for. I think the sound quality was good too and it was simple and easy to use. However, I had the same problem as a lot of other people: the alarm going off causes the whole system to freeze. I took it back and got a replacement. All was going well until the first time I tried to use the iPod dock. Now the stupid thing freezes every time I plug the iPod in! Great disappointment. 08 January 2013

Unsuitable as bedside radio Returned after one night's use as a radio alarm, because the (undimmable) display was outrageously bright. The sound quality was also very poor. Incidentally the illuminated area on the front of the radio is much larger than shown in the picture on this website. I have learnt the lesson never to buy gadgetry without a lot of research, even when it's labelled "John Lewis". 14 October 2012

Terrible We've had exactly the same problem. We bought this radio for the same reasons as the other reviewers (looks good and has lots of features), unfortunately the radio freezes when the alarm goes off and locks up the whole unit. We took it back at the weekend and got the same model and the same thing has happened again! Looks like its going to be our third trip back to JL to buy a clock radio! 25 September 2012

Alarm fails Some friends bought me this as a present. I was initially very pleased with it. Looks good, offers DAB radio and ipod dock. I use it as an alarm clock and after a few days it stopped working - it locks at the time the alarm is supposed to go off. Sometimes the radio will come on for a few seconds and others not at all. I returned to JL and replaced with the same model as I really liked it. Exactly the same has happened again. Definitely not reliable as an alarm clock - I have to set my phone as well. Now looking for a replacement product! 24 September 2012

A Great Disappointment In the shop it looked good and seemed to have everything I wanted, But:- The alarm failed on first morning and randomly since, which then locks up the unit. Even the clock freezes, so it has to be restarted from scratch. The back light is so bright, even on standby. that it needs to be covered if you want to sleep. The sound is poor and only the input from an iPod/Phone is acceptable. I don't expect HiFi but this is muffled and wooly, probably due to poor tuning circuits. FM reception is only acceptable on the major stations so forget local radio. DAB is very variable and subject to fade out. The only acceptable radio reception is from the internet through an iPhone or iPod Touch app. The sound is also better but not great. The remote control is poor and all the key controls are on the top radio so can't be seen easily when in bed. Finally the case is very shiny black plastic and attracts dust like a magnet. Shame really as I did rather like its looks, but after a week its time take it back. Sorry I can't recommend this, but glad that at least it came from John Lewis so I know I will be treated well when I return it tomorrow and choose a replacement. 16 September 2012

Great product! great radio, excellent sound quality, the screen is a little dark but not really a problem. I would defiantly recommend this radio! 06 September 2012
