John Lewis Classic French Press Cafetiere
Quality does not match price
A very dissappointing purchase. The product looks great and is not cheap, but the functionality is less than expected. The filter is not particularly fine, so anything less than very coarse grinds leak a lot of sediment into the coffee. The worst thing is that the filter regularly gapes at the edge, allowing a steady stream of coffee grinds into the drink when pressed.
I purchased a '3 cup' (1 mug) version around 6 months ago and use it daily in the office. I now feel the need to replace it with something that does its job properly.

Bought this as it stated 5 cups, guessing it's just 5 little espresso sized cups which was disappointing. Only just get two decent mugs from full jug. Glass is flimsy and guess it won't last that long.

Not up to expectation
We bought the 12 cup version just before Christmas. Initially it was OK but now, the nut that holds the plastic top in place comes undone, the centre shaft unscrews too easily and all round, it is not a product worthy of the John Lewis name. Very disappointed.

perfect for coffee with no waste
Great size for about 2 cups of coffee; ideal for a mid morning break, stylish and easy to clean. got it as a gift and it was well received and I know well used.

After the third or fourth use the mesh seal loosened up allowing around a quarter of the floating coffee grounds in to the drink. It doesn't really do the job its supposed to.
Wish I'd kept the receipt so I could take it back.

I agree with the previous review. I have the 8 cup size and I am very disappointed with the quality. The metal has sharp edges, the lid is flimsy and the filter is not tight fitting! It is not at all like your previous La Cafetiere range.
It was a gift so I thought I would keep it but after close examination and also experiencing difficulty removing the glass container from its holder, I think I will return it!
It is not cheap and I expect better value and quality control from John Lewis.

I expected that an item under the john Lewis name would be of an acceptable quality. I am afraid these "Classic French Press Coffee Makers" are not. They are far inferior to La Cafetiere brand that John Lewis previously stocked. They are much lighter in weight, the mesh filter is so fine and badly constructed that the coffee is forced out around it and spills out of the jug when pushed down. The hole of the mesh filter has not got a metal ring around it so the edge of the hole is very rough and cannot be washed easily without catching on the washing implement or your fingers!
The price is slightly cheaper which in no way compensates for the above.
I will be returning my items to the store for a refund.
