John Lewis Eric Cot, White
Can't be beaten at this price
We originally bought a cot from another retailer which was described as white, but turned out to be cream. On returning it, we chose to go for this one which was half the price of the one we previously bought. I was concerned that at this price it would be a little "cheap" feeling, but I was wrong. This item could be sold for much more and still be a good value purchase. It isn't the most solid of cots, but it is by no means flimsy and doesn't flex structurally when pushing against it.
Assembly is straight forward and I had no issues with the drop side as noted by other buyers. On looking at the mechanism, I can see that there could be issues if the studs aren't aligned correctly, but a simple adjustment should be all that is needed if it doesn't drop easily.
This cot is a proper white, meaning it matches our other white furniture in the nursery including the Lasko wardrobe also bought from John Lewis, which is really important for us #why go to the expense of buying new things if they don't look right?#.
All in, at this price point I haven't seen another cot close to matching this one.

The cot looks really good and good size for small spaces. Quick to put together. The drop side function is slightly awkward and not as easy as hoped - might work better after a couple of uses (or need a bit of oiling).

Looks great, does the job fine.
Prompt delivery (in-store) and great customer service as usual. We bought this because it looks great and is just the right size, we also wanted a drop-side cot. Positives: It was quickly and easily assembled. Looks great. Negatives: The drop-side is NOT 'one-handed' as advertised, it takes two hands and a knee to effectively drop the side. The surface scratches easily (apart from the tops of the rails which are plastic-covered). Baby hasn't arrived yet so not sure how easy and suitable it will be, but it seems to be good value for money.

Slightly shoddy but okay for the price
The cot looks good and baby seems comfortable in it (he often gets his head wedged, but I think that's a feature of our fidgety baby rather than the cot). However, when we put it together we discovered that one of the holes had not been drilled properly so the bolt could not fit into it. So we have one of six connection points (of four on the non drop side and two on the drop side) unbolted, but we continue to use the cot as it still seems solid. Not very impressive workmanship, especially for a baby product! I expected more from John Lewis. We have not tried the drop side so I cannot say whether it works or not.

Looks lovely but does not work
We bought this cot as it has a really nice appearance and we didn't want anything too fancy. It looks great and feels sturdy, however the drop side does not work. My husband is very practical and cannot get the drop side to work smoothly at all. We went into a branch of JL today and the drop side did not work on the display model either.
Our baby is 6 months old and we need to move him out to his own room so I do not have time to return the cot and shop around for another. I will position the drop side against the wall and use the cot as though it has fixed sides.
I am really disappointed as I am a true JL fan, service and products are usually excellent, but this cot does not work and is not fit for the purpose intended. I would suggest JL would be better off amending the design to make this a fixed side cot.

Great value for money
I purchased this cot for when my baby granddaughter comes to stay. The quality is that of cots 3times the price. Easy to assemble and very sturdy.

Clearer instructions needed!
We recently got our Eric cot delivered for our impending arrival... The first part of the assembly was very easy and straightforward...
Can't say the same for trying to get the drop side fitted though....We were so frustrated by the unclear instructions that we almost gave up and considered throwing it away!
The white finish got lots of marks while we were fiddling with getting that drop side in. The trick is to push the plastic caps in the drop side at the complete end before trying to slide it in the cot! Once this was done, it just slid through perfectly.. If the instructions could include these points that would have been very helpful!

I have been really unimpressed with the drop side of this cot and wish I'd gone with a fixed side. It is difficult to use properly and even if I try to leave it up, tends to drop at one side. I am planning to use metal brackets to fix it in place as once my daughter starts rattling the bars, I don't think it will be safe. The only reason I have given it 2 stars is that once I have done that it will be a decent cot. This is the only purchase I have made that I don't think I would use with a second child.
