Looked everywhere for stainless steel curtain poles that would fit our wide windows, were in stock, not too pricey and could be delivered on a Saturday. JL seemed to be the only option, but previous reviews of these extendable pole kits concerned me a bit. Took a deep breath and ordered 2 of these for our main and spare bedrooms - one for use with eyelet curtains and one for pencil pleats. Chose not to extend/cut them and have the join in the centre, in case it weakened the pole - and it was fine. Curtains are up - they look great - and opening/closing the curtains across the join isn't an issue. All parts were present and unscratched and I'd have no hesitation in recommending these to anyone!

Great idea, poor design
Bought two in the steel finish for the Living Room and Kitchen. Easy to fit, and looked great, HOWEVER, we have pencil pleat curtains hanging from these poles and they are IMPOSSIBLE to draw across the pole due to the join in the pole; the rings get caught in the join, going from one 'side' of the pole to the other. Inevitably, when drawing the curtains across, curtain hooks tend to get yanked out.
I cannot understand how this pole kit has got 4-5* reviews with a pole that is not suitable for curtains. Perhaps they work better with eyelet curtains…?

Good quality pole!
Good quality and ideal for the heavyweight curtains we have. Assembly straight forward too.

Great value for money
Brought these for our new home. They are wonderful. In themselves they are not tricky to put up and even have instruction of how much wider and higher than window to put them. The most complicated bit is figuring out what sort if wall your putting them onto and what sort of screws you need. We did have to buy heavier duty screws and I imagine a lot of people may have to, but that is a small price to pay for how lovely they look. Remember to cut the pole so the cross over is in the middle and you'll have curtain rails that look measure to fit and brilliant in any home.
The reason for 4/5 is the only having one type of screw but this is slightly harsh as it would be impossible to put every sort of screw for ever wall in.

Good idea, but...
Thought this pole would be the answer to an odd size window, but I wish we had looked online at the reviews before buying it. The brackets were not to our taste (too industrial), but we bought others that we preferred - so far, so good.
However, like one other reviewer, we have had trouble drawing the curtains over the point at which the pole extends. It is almost impossible to draw the curtains and as you try and flick the curtain from the smaller to larger pole, inevitably a curtain hook falls out of the curtain tape! The last time I tried to draw them, I ended up with four hooks on the floor...
We are now thinking we will have to replace the pole with the ones we have elsewhere in the house which we can cut to size.
Such a shame.

Extremely disappointed. Ordered 4 poles and 3 of them arrived damaged. Finials came off and there is no way to put them back unless you use a super glue I guess, also the plastic bit that is attached to the expandable bit came off, and that's me just examining the poles without taking them out of the box. Shocking. Upset I now need to come out my way to return them back.

These look very good
But, has anyone else found a problem pulling the curtains together when the poles are extended? I find that the rings are extremely difficult to pull over the join in the pole.
