John Lewis Franklin Office Chair
This is my first review and I felt compelled to write and share my experience. I am a big fan of John Lewis and always get good service there but this chair is not suitable for high usage. I work from home and give the chair a lot of use and wanted to invest in a quality item. The stuffing had gone flat well before 2 years had lapsed. By the time I contacted the store a couple of months after the 2 year guarantee had run out they advised that there was nothing that they could do. In short, for occasional use this is a great chair but if you work from home it is not fit for purpose. Lessons learnt I have just bought a new chair from Hopewells. My main complaint is with the manufacturer rather than John Lewis although I do feel that a better outcome could have been achieved if JL had fought my corner.

Looks fantastic and very comfortable
After having read all the previous reviews regarding difficult assembly of the arms, I was amazed with how easily this chair was assembled. No problems at all, and total time to build was about 15 minutes. Looks great and feels substantial and comfortable. Very happy with it so far.

leather split after 26 months
I had no problem putting the chair together. It is comfortable and for two year has done its job. Now however in two places on the front of the chair the leather has split..not what you expect from John Lewis, nor from leather nor from a chair of this price..this is leather not leather effect plastic. We have other leather furniture without this problem even after a decade or more. JL will do nothing as it is outside their 24 month warranty period ( though one 'customer service' person tried to claim it only had a 1 year warranty). So if you want a chair that will look good for just two years then OK..otherwise I would advise people not to buy this chair.

When the box was opened, we noticed the standard of packaging was poor. On examining the components we were very disappointed. We found that the pedestal for the wheels was painted plastic. This on its own would not have been so bad, except the paint had been applied over scratches that showed through. Furthermore, the paint had dried leaving sharp drip edges to the tips of legs which could have hurt someone's feet on contact. Furthermore there was an area where the paint had been scuffed off exposing the under surface. Other components were "Agricultural " in manufacture. Quality control seems to have been non existant.
( I am afraid that JL were also very lacking in delivery information and caused us other issues as well).

Its Rapid Deterioration Not Expected
I bought this chair to replace an office chair of 10 years old. It felt very comfortable at first and I was very happy with it - much like many other reviewers. So much so, that after about three months I ordered a duplicate for my husband. Unfortunately, after about 4 months my chair began to 'sag'. It became so uncomfortable and made my back hurt the instant I sat on it that my husband agreed to swop with me. His chair, being 'younger', is much more comfortable at present but I'm just waiting for those first signs of disintegration... Don't get me wrong, it's a nice chair if you admire it from afar, but I've only used it for home use, less than an hour a day. It's a heck of a lot of money to fork out for something so unserviceable.

30 Minutes - Get In!!
OK, it's tricky but it's worth the effort. The salesman made sure that we had read these reviews so we knew what we might come up against before we bought it. His top tip was to practice fit all the bolts first to clear out the holes which we did. My top tip is when you are fitting the arms, fit them to the base first and then attach them to the back rest. Went like a dream except for one of the bolts which has to go under the height adjusting lever which is a bit of a design glitch and is quite tricky. I used a power screwdriver with a hexagon bit which worked a treat, plus another 3 adults to manipulate the chair! Not disappointed with the comfort and the build quality though. Give it a go but be prepared for some tricky bits.

3 HOURS later and a less than amused husband!
HIMSELF, a fully qualified Master Tech, really knows his stuff! Not one hole lined up with anything, the arms looked like they were designed to fit a different frame etc!! CONSTRUCTION NIGHTMARE! Finished result, lovely! Now getting up courage to tackle the second chair, can't have none matching chairs! Just hope no.2 is better and that we were just unlucky with the first one! Don't expect these sort of problems on a JL product!! DISAPPOINTED!

The first chair had to be replaced as they had sent two right arms! After a further week the second chair arrived.
The assembly of the chair is ok but my husband had chair rage trying to fit the arms which were very difficult to line up to enable the screws to go in and tighten. It is essential that the screws joining the seat to the back are not tightened up until this is done so that there is enough flexibility to allow this. Still not completely satisfactory although the chair is very comfy. All instructions were followed correctly
