Q & As

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Really comfy for a bad back Arthritis at the base of my spine makes sitting down really painful. This chair is just what I need: it's well-padded, has good lumbar support, and offers the option of tilting back slightly so that one's weight is distributed more evenly across one's back instead of all the pressure being on the base of the spine. Really pleased with it. 14 July 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Comfy chair Other posters have noted that fitting the arms is difficult, they are correct the alignment of the holes with the fixing plates are way out of line. Finishing of the components is poor, JL should have better quality control of its suppliers. Finished artical looks OK but for the price should be better. 30 June 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by ok I was a little disappointed with the quality of the product if i'm honest. The comfort of the chair was next to none however I thought for the price of it the chair was poorly made. 02 June 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Yeah, Baby, Yeah We bought a chestnut colour Franklin chair. Delivery was on time and the delivery man was helpful. The instructions were clear, and assembly was mostly trouble free. Some other reviewers, who experienced assembly difficulty, have commented on past (mostly trouble-free) assembly of IKEA furniture. This furniture is slightly different in that the instructions include words as well as diagrams. The nuts and bolts are tight on first fit, and it’s worth inserting and removing all the bolts into/out of the nuts before assembly to minimise resistance when you come to the actual assembly process. Final assembly should be a lot easier, and if you then do experience resistance at final assembly you know its probably a crossed thread. My advice would also be that If all else fails then read the instructions which include “Do not tighten the screws completely” ……. until the very end …….“Now tighten all the screws”, (they mean bolts). Before we bought this chair we tried out all IKEA office chairs and most of the John Lewis range and other (much more expensive) chairs they stocked at 2 branches. This felt the best. In use, for up to several hours at a time, the chair is exceptionally supportive and comfortable - so far. Quality is on a par with IKEA. We cannot comment on wear as we have only used it for a few days. 02 May 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very comfortable Tried this chair in the shop and liked it so went ahead and bought one in chestnut. Have now had it for two weeks and am really pleased. It is very sturdy, very comfortable and has a good range of (adjustable) movements. Good lumbar support too.Was a little concerned by some of the reviews about assembly but to be honest there wasn't too much of a problem. The arms need a bit of patience but so long as you don't tighten the back plate screws - as it tells you not to - they are fine. (I have had to assemble two as the first one had to go back due to a defect. No problem with either) An expensive purchase but it feels like it will last a long time. 24 April 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Franklin Office Chair Well designed, well made and exceptionally comfortable. Very good value for money. Most of the adverse comments about the difficulty of assembly are rubbish. If the normal engineering procedure is adopted of inserting ALL screws and only turning a few threads BEFORE tightening them all down, then there is no problem. Delivery guys were terrific. 31 March 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Buy Elsewhere The plastic coated legs are rubbish, and were chipped. Padding on the front leg support of the chair is not equal across the front. And then there is the assembly of the arms. I'm good with flat pack furniture but I was beginning to get stressed towards the end. The bolts on the arms are a nightmare and apart from being awkward to get in, can decide to cross thread! The quality of the leather and plastic is rubbish. And the only thing going for the chair is that it is comfortable! Suggestion, buy cheaper elsewhere and one which comes ready assembled. DO NOT BUY! 30 March 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Very Poor Chair with Safety Issue The build quality of this chair is poor. The plastic covers on the base legs constantly come off from day one. The chair significantly lost 'padding' in the foam filling and lost comfort over a 12 month period. However the worst problem was a metal rod that started to protrude out of the leather covering at the front of the seat. This came to light when I stood up and scratched my leg. I also tore some clothing on this as well. Eventually this rod stuck out by more than 25mm. This is dangerous! After just over a year I called John Lewis to return the chair and they have been excellent in dealing with this. I have received a full refund and they picked up the chair from home to return it. The John Lewis driver who picked up the chair was shocked at how dangerous this chair was. I recommend no-one buys this product. 27 February 2015
