John Lewis Franklin Office Chair
The first chair had to be replaced as they had sent two right arms! After a further week the second chair arrived.
The assembly of the chair is ok but my husband had chair rage trying to fit the arms which were very difficult to line up to enable the screws to go in and tighten. It is essential that the screws joining the seat to the back are not tightened up until this is done so that there is enough flexibility to allow this. Still not completely satisfactory although the chair is very comfy. All instructions were followed correctly

Shame about the back not tilting far enough forward but otherwise very comfortable easy to assemble says my husband. Arms slighly difficult but you just need the correct tools. Hope the leather lasts and if that does a great buy

Just spend several hours assembling, with a break in between I add, Assembling the base and back was easy, but the arms are a different matter. Fiddly key which isn;t quite long enough. Arms still doesn't feel secure. Was it worth it? Well probably but only just.

I tried this out in a store and decided to ignore the other reviews as it was really comfy and just what I wanted. The product arrived this morning - fantastically cheerful delivery drivers - and it took me altogether 45 minutes to unpack and put together. Most of the time was spent tightening the nuts as it slotted together easily. I have no idea what peoples negative reviews were about... but am very happy to loan myself out to construct others chairs at a very reasonable rate ;-)
I can only imagine people didn't follow the instructions properly - the arms were no problem at all, just slot them together then tighten the nuts once everything is in place.
V happy... and v comfy!

John Lewis Franklin Office Chair
Prompted by an increasingly delapidated chair, I decided a new one was called for. I tried all those on display in the local John Lewis store where a range of options both in style and price was available. This one proved to be the most acceptable and although fairly expensive I decided it was likely to last me a long time and therefore good value. Besides, the wife offered to buy it as a birthday present so it was a no-brainer. Having read reviews I had noted that it might prove awkward to assemble. Upon receipt I requested that the delivery men took it to my study where I set about putting it together. Yes, the fitting of the arms is a bit difficult but the assembled article is well worth the effort. I am very happy with it and would encourage anyone hesitating to go for it. A great chair!

Nice chair, not easy to assemble
I tried one of these chairs in JL Bluewater and really liked it. The one delivered is not quite so comfortable – maybe it will soften with use. The adjustment for lumbar support is almost non-existent.
It was difficult to put together. It took me about 2 hours including “chair rage” and starting all over again. The problem is getting the arm rest bolts to line up with their holes. Some force is needed to get the right alignment. Once each bolt is started on its thread, leave it really loose – just a couple of turns - until you have them all attached. Then you can tighten them up.
Don’t buy this chair if you are not confident of your abilities as a flat-pack assembler. Even if you are confident – I was - read the other posts here and note all of the warnings and tips.
Quality is a bit poor for the price. I had to open out some of the bolt holes in the arm rests to get the fixing bolts through. Luckily (!) the arm rests turned out to be plastic so could be easily reamed out. The rests are silver painted but it has not been very well applied.

should have known better....
So l read all the reviews of this chair, most people commenting on how difficult it was to assemble - particularly the arms.
Of course l dismissed them thinking how hard can it be to put a chair together? I've put together countless pieces of furniture over the years and consider myself more than a bit useful (such pride before a fall)
So i made the purchase and now regret it - i should have known better. It was more than a little awkward to assemble, the quality of machining and finish is very average, i was expecting more. It works and holds together but the screws in the arms are only half located.
Thank you to all the other customers who commented, you did warn me l know, but did l listen? :(

Comfort at last . . .
Assembled in under an hour but used a cordless drill with appropriate Allen key instead of the one provided. All went well and after a little stretching of the chair arms to fit them in place, the job was all completed without any significant problems. I have the brown leather version and a treat it looks too. Once positioned at my desk, it was just a case of adjusting height and tilt to my needs and it's been a joy to sit in ever since.
