Q & As

John Lewis Freestanding Parasol, Dia.3m 1.9 5 13 13
Do not buy this product May husband bought this only a few months ago, Bolts have fallen out , The horizontal tilt can hit you in the face even when sitting down at a table. We are using the parts of my old one that we bought five years ago to mend this one. The vertical metal stand that connects to the floor plates is bent. If it was prise in a raffle, , Give it back ..! 20 August 2014
Poor Product This parasol should not be sold by John Lewis as it is of poor quality. Any slight breeze and the parasol turns in all directions and can hit you in the face. I feel sure it is faulty but I have been told any replacement would be the same. Not good enough ! 19 July 2014
Not good enough Leans worryingly when fully extended and the bolts don't seem sufficient to support it. I'm using water filled resin baseweights. It's almost certainly going back but then I won't need the JL baseweights? 28 June 2014
JL Freestanding parasol 300 I can only agree with all the negative comments raised by all the loyal JL customers on this product. The parasol was always very difficult to align in the fully opened position and needs two people as the inferior parts do marry up correctly. The parasol was also very difficult to sustain stability in very low windy conditions. The parasol was always put away on rainy days and in the winter as no cover was available at the time of purchase, but now the cord has snapped, which holds the parasol in the fully opened position and now made the parasol completely redundant. Please think very very carefully before buying this product as there are too many negative comments and you will be very disappointed with this inferior product from JL, which is most unusual 26 June 2014
A breeze I too bought this umbrella last year and have been very disappointed with its ability to cope with a light breeze before it starts to tilt. I have resorted to attaching cup hooks to my fence with a line attached to hold it in place, So why write now? Well, I need a cover for the umbrella and as yet not managed to find one on the web page. Just wondering why I did not return it a year ago! 15 May 2014
a real disappointment I really wanted the other reviews to be wrong about this parasol, but unfortunately they weren't. It was clunky and cumbersome, and a bolt holding one of the ribs together sheared off the second time we used it (not in windy conditions, either) rendering the umbrella useless. Badly finished, too, with a ragged hole at the top where the mechanism fits through the canopy. Before the breakage I was going to put up with this, even though I'm sure it would eventually have frayed and worsened. Not up to JL's usual standards. 06 April 2014
Ok The parasol looks good. However in the slightest breeze it moves all over the place. I purchased the 4 granite slabs, one of which was badly scratched but they do seem to hold the base in place, although have had no strong winds as yet to put them to the test. Overall I would say it is an ok product but that would be it. 24 July 2013
Scary in even a slight breeze We have the parasol, the base and the 4 granite slabs. There were some issues with only 2 slabs arriving, one of which was damaged, and also a missing spanner, but this was soon sorted. Quite frankly we are NOT happy with this product. Even a slight wind blows it around, the parasol tips and moves in various directions, meaning that you cannot stay shaded. It is NOT relaxing to be under, and all of our many visitors feel likewise. We will be contacting John Lewis to ask for a full refund as we don't have the confidence that it is safe. 17 July 2013
