John Lewis Hemingway Cane Carver Chair

Product information

This armchair is made from melia ash and pippy oak veneers. With a cane backrest, plump upholstered seat, and X-shaped stretchers between the tapering legs., it would make a wonderful addition to your home.

Pippy oak features small, tight clusters of knots, which appear sporadically in the growth of the tree. This feature is highly valued by master craftsmen for its decorative appearance. Melia ash is a fast growing tree, taking only 20-25 years to mature, and has been used for its stable and durable qualities. The cane used in Hemingway is natural and handmade

This elegant furniture is inspired by the formal yet practical look of the late 19th century Arts and Crafts movement. Each piece in the Hemingway range is made from melia oak solids and pippy oak veneers, stained a rich deep colour, and hand-polished with wax lacquer. For a traditional finish, doors and drawers are finished with antiqued brass knob handles.

John Lewis Hemingway Cane Carver Chair 4 5 3 3
Nice chair but `arms` to low 1st thing before I comment, that being I was askeo to review the product before it had been delivered, a little difficult don`t you think? Yes, the chair came and I was hoping it would be `love at 1st sit`, but I`m afraid not. For me, I found the `arms` were too low and the idea of `lounging` after you had `dined`, did`nt work. To use the arms you would have to `lean` to left or right and you, simply, felt uncomfortable. I realise it is meant to, or ought to, slide under the table but it could have arms 6 inches higher and still have plenty of room under the normal table height. After that it looks `well made` and if, as I say the arms were higher, I would have kept it. Pity. Alan Jefferies 01 April 2014
Quality and comfortable chair The cushion is soft to touch but firm enough to support throughout a dinner party and the cane back and the arms are lovely when you want to slump back and relax. A simple and pretty design, well made and comfortable, these chairs perfectly complement the Hemmingway dining table and bring a real sense of occasion to dining-in. 14 December 2011
Late but worth the wait The chairs when they finally completed the order were exactly what we wished for, comfortable and very good looking. 08 July 2011
