Q & As

John Lewis JL4-2014 Hooded 4 Burner Gas Barbecue 3 5 3 3
Very Pleased I deliberated over the choice of my new BBQ and chose this 4 burner model. I was surprised at some comments regarding construction as it only took me 42min whilst on my own! the construction was straight forward and the overall finished BBQ was sturdy. I was unsure of the grill stream idea but I must say that in use it works well and the majority of the fat is collected in the side chamber. The only downside of this type of grill is that there are more sections to clean but so far I have found it easy. which was great after my last BBQ for 30 friends.... Very pleased... 04 July 2014
Delivered faulty I had paid for this to be built and when it arrived it was really shoddy workmanship, badly damaged, chipped, bent and bolts not done up. Also if still had the finger prints all over it from whoever built it. The quality of the steel used is very thin and when the driver lifted if off the back of the truck it bent and was damaged even further. We also notice that it would not hold a standard 14kg gas bottle as they are 60cm and the height is 50cm, we will be requesting a refund and having the damaged one collected. 19 June 2014
Nice idea poorly executed Bought this because of the grillstream technology but I was disappointed with the material quality, which was only average in my opinion. This was an expensive item and I expected better. The steel is very thin and paintwork not particularly high quality. It took me over 2 hours to build as well and I am a retired Engineer, so don't expect to be up and running in the 50 minutes or so that was quoted as build time. Also, although the grill stream works reasonably well at preventing flare-ups, the fat does not run into the little catch-pot as described - it drips down and eventually drops onto the large catch tray underneath, so everything ends up covered in grease. But really this is worse than a normal BBQ in this respect, as on a normal unit, most of the grease gets burnt off in the flames, but on this design, the fat is all directed down the grills where it runs all over the place until it finds it's way onto the tray underneath. Overall then I am not particularly impressed, and will be looking to see if there is any way to make improvements and see if it can be made to work as designed. The basic problem seems to be that although the grills do catch and channel all the fat that comes off your cooking, poor engineering of the fat run-off means that it just drips all over the place instead of being channelled away into the little pot. So overall, nice try but no cigar..... 27 May 2014
