Brilliant Oven The trick to being able to easily read the digital display on this oven is to be tall enough to view it from slightly above . I have been using this oven which is situated in a frequently used holiday home and there are two of these, one above another. The second oven is at eye level. The bottom oven display can be seen easily, the top one is difficult to read if you are looking up at the display. Therefore in order not to experience problems, the oven needs to be situated so the display can be seen from slightly above. The difference this makes is tremendous. The oven is fantastic, ok you have to learn what the different functions are but it cooks superbly. It cooks evenly, is very spacious and has good options for shelf configurations. The interior light is excellent. I would not hesitate to have one of these in my own kitchen which is soon to be refurbished. This will be a strong contender. 14 May 2013

Excellent and superb value for money Have now been using my new oven for over a month. Having read other reviews I downloaded full instructions from website. Have managed all functions easily and find it cooks really well. Timer function and delayed start easy to use and the retractable shelf function means I have not yet burned myself- a frequent issue on my old oven.. Good oven size means multiple dishes can be managed. 03 April 2013

This oven is a nightmare! I bought this oven to complement my wonderful, new kitchen. Sadly, it has been an enormous disappointment and I would not recommend it. It looks super but after a week of struggling with the appallingly written Instruction Manual, I still cannot set the delay function! This is compounded by the very poor control panel which is completely unlit and has to be viewed with a torch!. John Lewis's normally excellent Customer Services have tried their best but they too cannot translate the Manual into a sequence that actually works! Is it faulty? I have no idea! All I know is that I have tried every sequence in the Manual scores of times - with the same results - the Oven starts with no delay. 21 March 2013

Despite initial concerns I absolutely love this oven! Reading the reviews I agonised over whether to buy this oven wondering if I would find the visibility of the controls a problem. Well having had it installed and having used it for a week I can honestly say I don't find them a problem at all. If the oven was sited in a poorly lit area or under a worktop I probably would have a different opinion but if like me you have an eye level position in a well lit area you might want to seriously consider this superb oven. To be clear its only the areas you touch for the functions, temperature, time etc which are not lit up, the program, temperature and time actually chosen is lit up in red in the display and is very clear. The information given is superb and I love being able to see the actual oven temperature easily. The beeps when it reaches temperature are just right, not too loud but enough to alert you. Its not clear in JL's description but this model also comes with a core temperature sensor to insert in a joint and connect to the oven and one set of telescopic shelf runners. So far I absolutely love this oven, from the bright internal light, the huge cavity, the easy to use controls to the end cooking results! 06 February 2013

Problem Controls! Excellent oven with many superb features ruined by lack of a couple of pieces of wire and a bulb. The controls are grey on black with no back light - what a design flaw. We are changing our oven for one with clear, usable controls, what a shame. Which magazine awarded it 'best buy'. Can they possibly have considered visibility of controls? 23 January 2013

Superb Took delivery of this product mid December. So far great, although still have to master a very complicated programme as there are so may options! I think the oven shutting off when the door is completely opened is a very good safety feature, and also being able to turn the oven light off during cooking is sensible. Would definitely recommend highly. 10 January 2013

POOR CONTROLS WHOEVER DESIGNED THIS DIDNT DO THEIR JOB PROPERLY, ALTHOUGH THE OVEN WORKS FINE, THE CONTRIOLS ARE ALMOST INVISIBLE TO SEE! MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO USE, IM SURPRISED THIS OVEN WAS EVEN PASSED AS FIT FOR PURPOSE 09 January 2013

Only one fault. This is the best performing oven we have owned in 40 years of marriage. However it is spoiled by the "difficult to see" controls. A back light would have made all the difference. However the removal of the oven door to clean the triple glazing couldn't be simpler. 25 December 2012
