Q & As

John Lewis JLBIOS616 Single Oven, Stainless Steel 1 5 1 1
Poor Controls & non existent soft close mechanism We initially bought two AEG ovens based on their Which best buy rating. However both gave a very uneven bake so we reread the Which best buys and transferred to these John Lewis ovens as John Lewis were rated Which best buys and this model is the new one with supposedly improved controls since the Which tests. These ovens are also made by AEG and looked very similar to the AEG ovens that baked unevenly. We found that these ovens baked evenly which was good news. However one of the first two that we got have a crooked fascia and neither had the soft close mechanism featured on the Internet description. We therefore got two additional ones sent across but neither of these had the soft close mechanism either. By this time we had also found that the symbols on the new rotary controls very difficult to read. Since these were supposed to have been improved on feedback from Which? members they must have forgotten to do their market research on actual users. The emphasis seems to be very much on how they look versus functional use. We then transferred over to two Neff ovens with the Slide and Hide doors. These are well built, cook and bake well. They also come with a very clear manual (unlike the John Lewis and AEG cookers). 15 August 2014
