Q & As

John Lewis JLCH300 Chest Freezer, A+ Energy Rating, 106cm Wide, White 4.7 5 21 21
So Far so Good. A very quiet machine maintaining a consistent temperature with ease. The large light inside is very useful when used in an outbuilding. 20 September 2014
Excellent product This freezer matched its description and I am very pleased with it and it fits perfectly in my utility room . Delivery was as promised and the delivery men were polite and helpful - well done John Lewis 02 September 2014
One design flaw - otherwise all good As someone else has said, the only requirement of a freezer is that it freezes stuff and lasts a long time. Well, it does freeze stuff but I can't comment on how long it lasts as we've only had it for four days. So first impressions are that it seems fine and looks rather nice - all gleaming white, including the top (our previous one had a durable surface on the top, which may have been more practical but didn't look as good). A couple of things surprise me though - one quite serious: 1. As someone else pointed out, the temperature control is low down, near the front, on the right hand side of the freezer. If you're putting the freezer in a confined space, as we have, you certainly won't be able to see this control and may not even be able to reach it at all. The freezer is described as being 106cm wide, but you probably need to allow at least another 3cm to get your hand in to operate this control. I really think this should be made clear in the description. 2. This is probably fine but I'm surprised how cold the outside of the freezer feels to the touch, suggesting that the insulation could be better. It's not in itself a problem and presumably it's all working as intended but still I'm surprised. I've knocked off a star because of the badly position temperature control, which may not matter that much as, once set, you probably don't need to touch it again. In all other respects it seems as good as I would expect from JL. 15 August 2014
A good freezer? Since the main criterion for judging a freezer is that it should work for years, rating is not really possible yet. However, one feature of this freezer that buyers should be aware of is that the temperature control is on the right hand side not the front; so you need to leave some extra space on this side. 30 July 2014
Top Notch freezer. This is an attractively designed and well engineered product. The control panel is rather unusually positioned on the top lid. This makes it very convenient compared to the more familiar low mounted arrangement. (Just be careful not to inadvertently press the fast freeze button when opening the lid,) The thermostat is however placed on the compressor cover on the RH side of the freezer; here it is well protected from inadvertent operation and will only require very infrequent adjustment. The lifting handle for the lid is sensibly and securely mounted and only protrudes 43mm from the front edge of the lid. When opened the lid stays put in a vertical position and the interior light provides very good illumination. The lid seal is well positioned and is very effective. There are no cooling fins at the rear of the freezer, only a very shallow box arrangement. This makes for a very sleek design without the normal dust collecting arrangement. Wheels under the freezer make moving it in a forward/backward direction very easy. It would have been an advantage to have some sort of inside separator to prevent items placed on top of the "shelf" covering the compressor from falling into the lowest part of the freezer. However the depth of the freezer is just right, making access to the lower placed articles very easy. Another internal basket would also have been an advantage. These are only minor complaints which do not detract from this really excellent product. All this and a three year warranty as standard. Altogether a lovely piece of kit which is very quiet in operation. 09 October 2013
Chest Freezer Ordered online, delivery within 3 days. Limited on the baskets inside and no seperation of fast freezer section to stop things falling over but otherwise nice compact unit. I do like the power and fast freeze controls on top of the unit, makes it easier to see and control than down at floor level. 06 January 2013
Great product Lots of room and the wheels make it easy to manouvre. 13 December 2012
Needed freezer for the garage Really pleased with this freezer, space inside much better than I thought there would be. 2 baskets provided but will be getting a third one. This freezer is all and more than I thought it would be. The delivery men were excellant, unpacked it put it in place and took all the old package away, and they were very pleasant with it. This is first time I have used on line service for a big item and would certainly use it again especially John Lewis store. They kept me informed re delivery and was delivered within 7days well done. Just love the product. 02 December 2012
