Q & As

John Lewis JLDWW1202 Dishwasher, White 1.7 5 9 9
Bin - worthy We bought this machine 3 years ago and have had a series of problems with it from the very start. Initially the front fascia cracked where the power button is, making it inoperable. This was fixed but other problems as highlighted by other purchasers include stacking problems, fundamental flaws with the internal design, failure for the dispenser flap to open during the running of the machine, or opening 5 mins from the end of the cycle resulting in a gloopy dishwasher tablet mess smeared round the bottom of the machine. Most seriously of all though was the machine would suddenly stop working mid-cycle and an error message would flash up. We discovered that if we just ran the machine on a fast 30 min wash this didn't happen. Needless to say the plates and cutlery were rarely sparkling on this setting. However, it's now finally stopped working on this setting so the machine is ready for landfill 40 months after purchase. I would rate it zero stars but that's not an option. 03 May 2014
Very disappointing Tablet dispenser failed twice - replaced once under guarantee but failed a second time after the guarantee had run out. I now throw the tablet into the bottom of the machine. The wheels and spindles on the lower basket are made of such poor quality plastic that they will no longer stay vertical and cause the basket to slip off its runners (the metal ridges along the inside of the machine) which means that the basket falls down into the bottom of the machine and prevents the washer arm from turning. The spindles of the wheels have gone brittle as have the clips that hold the wheels on the basket, which means they don't stay upright. One has shattered completely and the other 7 are close to it! The top basket is very badly designed - any mugs or bowls put down the edges fall over - unless they are propped up by another item. The hinged shelves at the top prevent you putting taller items, etc on the edges of the basket so they fall over too. 20 March 2014
Disappointed! My last dishwasher was a Hotpoint and lasted 15 years! I can't seem to stack this one nearly as well. With the cup racks in the up position, our glasses still won't fit in the space underneath - the tumblers are just too tall. With the cup racks down the racks seem too narrow to hold an ordinary tea cup. So the glasses just keep falling over in the middle of the basket or I have to put them on the plate holders in the bottom basket. I never thought to try out plates, glasses, cups etc before I bought, I just thought John Lewis would have got the design right. 19 March 2014
Very disappointed Had this machine for just over 2 years, very disappointed, especially as I have a john lewis fridge which is brill. This diswasher has now broken and beyond repair, needs a new board, feel very let down really as I really wouldn't expect this from JL. I would stick with a German make next time, more reliable 13 March 2014
Bad I have given only one star as it is quiet as stated. Overall though it is very poor. Sometimes the tablet does not dispense,. The top tray does not hold mugs etc properly and they end up on their sides, I think the angle of the slope is not right. The bottom tray is very bad. Some of the spokes are not long enough so you cannot stack many plates without them falling over. I just it does not last as long as my other one (25 years) 01 March 2014
great value product I purchased this product just before christmas in time to avoid the huge washing up marathon entertaining brings! I am not disappointed in the least by this dishwasher, it was very good value for money and came with an extended John Lewis guarantee. It's performance is good, washes everything very cleanly, quiet machine. Almost identical to a Zanussi I had before. I would thoroughly recommend this dishwasher. 11 January 2014
Not user friendly I have had this dishwasher for just unnder 3 mths now. The problems are: 1. It sometimes fails to dispense the dishwasher tablet.. This may be due to the top tray not being pushed firmly in to engage. It isn't mentioned in the manual and is not needed for other models. 2. The start up. With this machine, to do the wash we choose -' auto multi-tab' this necessitates pressing 4 buttons in the right sequence and with the right timing to get it to start on the correct programme. 3. The top rack - the connection to the spray arm does not automatically engage, and again often fails. It has to be pressed very firmly home to ling with the water supply to fill the spray arm. When all the above checks are made the wash is fine. 07 December 2013
unsatisfactory Generally poor. All items still damp at end of cycle. Stainless steel oven trays remain stained after washing .I have tried different wash programs and different tablets with no real improvement. My previous machine had no such problems. 30 October 2013
