Q & As

John Lewis JLFSMC607 Dual Fuel Cooker, Stainless Steel 2.1 5 10 10
Not worthy of the John Lewis name I have owned this cooker for nearly three years now. Arrived with a large part missing (the bar with the air vents at the back of the cooker) & arguements over how quickly the part could be supplied. Both the clock/timer and the main oven door seal failed within the first three months, however my three main gripes about this cooker (its actually a SMEG) are; The fan runs on for a good hour after you have turned the oven off. Why? The main fan oven does not cook evenly, trays of chips, pies etc nearly always have a burned edge on food on the bottom shelf nearest the fan. The third problem is partly my fault as I chose the cooker online & didn't realise that the front two hob rings are a ferociously hot ring meant for woks and a pitifully slow ring for small pans. Only the back two are what I'd call "normal" strength heat. All-in-all a big disappointment & after just 3 years I am ditching it . Will buy from J.Lewis again, great store, but don't regard SMEG as worth the extra cost compared to my old Cannon. 04 October 2014
Early Review This cooker was delivered and installed yesterday and our old cooker removed. Whilst it is a little too early to review the features of the cooker, we have used the oven and hob and so far, so good. What I wanted to write on my review was the delivery chaps were absolutely fantastic. They delivered on time and removed our old cooker efficiently. The new cooker was installed quickly and the chaps were very friendly. There was a problem with our electrical connection where a fuse was faulty and they sorted this for us.. Excellent customer service. Hopefully, the cooker will prove a good buy. 06 April 2014
So far so good It took us a long time to choose & online reviews put us off initially. We have been using the cooker for a couple of months & so far so good, some niggles. Good points:- Two ovens, duel fuel, build quality, solid cast iron hobs, deep moulded hob top to catch spills without places for them to seep (being deep spills don’t burn - cleaning is easier). Heat retained in ovens so well you wonder if they are working! -fuel bills have gone down already. It keeps the steam in far more than old cooker, food is moister, not as brown. It does mean that the kitchen is less steamed up. Love cooking without fan - not quite as quiet as hoped, - fan that runs on afterwards to keep knobs cool! We like grilling with door shut, only you can’t smell when toast is burning! We like flame failure devices, less the automatic ignition it carries on while you have to hold in the knob, would have pref. sep. ignition button. Less good points:- The biggest one for us was the experience of customer service on line, eventually sorted. The large burner at the front is a bit scary, sometimes doesn’t light straight away & then large amount of gas lights! The large oven’s door opens down to floor making it difficult to shut; we would have preferred a sideways. Large oven having a grill in the top makes it more difficult to clean; top one there is a top liner that comes out. It’s not clear what comes with the cooker & instructions could be a lot better. Isn’t much space at the back, had gas fitter put new gas fitting on pipe. Could do with another wire shelf -just two between two ovens. Not so keen on deep shelf, no grill handle & its huge. Nearly forgot need to remember when taking stuff out of main oven & using any of the settings that have top element on need to not reach in, managed to burn an oven glove !!! 26 February 2014
dont buy this cooker This is the second time the glass in the oven door has shattered in this cooker. I have given up on it now and will buy a new on after only approximately 3 and half years. This is an example of style over substance it looks good this is just a deception it really doesn't work very well.. This cooker has wasted time, energy, and money. I am very disappointed and angry. 14 September 2013
Nice top, shame about the ovens This is a good looking product let down by the poor oven performance. Temperatures are either slow to rise in the main oven (over 30 minutes to acheive 175C with fan on), or rise too far in the top oven (set at 180C rises to 240C). The hob by contrast was excellent. The cooker was rejected as not fit for purpose and to JL's credit the cost was refunded. 18 March 2013
Do Not buy this cooker Was excited when purchase this cooker, thought that it would be very good due to it not being what I call cheap. What a disaster, you cannot cook over 225 degrees the oven cuts out, have spoilt meals. Have noticed that previous people have also experienced this. We have had a engineer out twice. We are now trying to get a new cooker from John Lewis, have had enough. 18 November 2012
John Lewis name, built by Smeg After a lot of research, i was in the market for a Smeg Dual Fuel Cooker. After finding this model in John Lewis i noticed the similarities and confirmed it was built by Smeg. A cheaper option, with a longer warranty, but all with the same great perfromance. Very pleased with purchase and the service received. Would highly recommend. 28 October 2012
not very good John Lewis cooker I bought this cooker because it has the John Lewis brand so I assumed it would be of good quality. It cost around £200 more than the average cooker this too was reassurung but I have been very disappointed in it.The glass in the cooker shattered at 2 years 9 months old. The timer no longer works, the covers for the lights fell off, the oven light doesnt work, the coating on the knobs melted slightly so now now have a scuffed look. the inside of the oven door was damaged by oven cleaner because what I thought was metal turned out just to be coating. Drips between the panes in the glass door cant be cleaned. I wouldnt mind but it hasn't really had a lot of use in the last year because I now live on my own. This is a shoddy piece of eqiupment and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. 12 August 2012
