Q & As

Rated 5 out of 5 by Daughter loves it My daughter had this for xmas and is 8years ol. Initially i thought this could be a bit young for her, but she loves it!!! 07 January 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very good but . . . Bought for our granddaughter for Christmas - chose a John Lewis product assuming quality would be assured. She loved it and it proved sturdily resilient when trodden on! We had fun exploring the rhythm selection buttons , but I was very surprised that the one labelled 'waltz' was in quadruple time (4 beats to a bar) and the whole point of a waltz is it is in triple time (1-2-3 !). An annoying and avoidable error in an instrument presumably designed by someone with even basic musical knowledge! Reading over other reviews I must admit I didn't check the accuracy of pitch, assuming that it would be ok - now I wish I had checked this detail. 30 December 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Breaks very easily This was my 22 month old's main Christmas present. She adores music and loves dancing. It was a step up from her little baby keyboard. It was all going great, lots of dancing and a very happy little girl. Then on day 3 she was carrying it and it slipped from her hands. Not very far, it just fell on the floor. It started making strange noises straight away and now makes a droning noise non-stop after about 30 seconds using the demo button / the music buttons. It's a shame it was so flimsy as she did really love it. 28 December 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Useless as an instrument - even for little kids This product is sold as a kids' instrument, not merely as a toy that makes a noise. I have returned mine for refund as other keyboards in the shop had the same faults. Pitch (incorrect): I wish I'd tested this before purchase. The indicated notes are not correctly pitched. I'm not talking about less than a semitone here: The whole keyboard was approximately six semitones (forget exactly how much) flat. For the non-musicians, that means that if you want to play a note such a C, you actually have to play F sharp. This was tested using my "Snark" guitar tuner. Transposing your music to play with kids takes all the fun out, not to say tricky. Polyphonic (sort of): It appears to be. A chord of C major played acceptably anywhere on the keyboard (but all of course six semitones flat). This was as far as I went in the shop. After I got home I played a G major - this played incorrectly although all the notes individually were acceptable. Any two notes seemed OK but three notes were discordant at any position tested on the keyboard. This makes chord playing impossible. Volume control (ineffective): seemed to make little difference. I tested more than one machine in the shop on my return and none of those tested were any better. My verdict is "unfit for purpose" and not of a quality that's suitable for any use as an introductory instrument. Please do not waste your money. The Casio SA-46 (from Argos) has fewer keys and is more complicated to select sounds etc., but has a much better touch and plays properly for an additional £10. JL: I recommend that you withdraw this item. 19 December 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice item This was gift for my granddaughter who lives in Wales & I'm in Scotland but from speaking to her & her Dad she seems quite pleased and interested in this keyboard. She may be a bit young (she's four) but she appears keen to learn. 01 September 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Really useful product I bought this item for my 3 year old grandchild who is unable to see. He really loves it and plays with it a lot.. It is nice to find something that that is both helpful to him and is also a lot of fun. 24 June 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by John Lewis keyboard Purchased this keyboardfor our 6 year old grand Daughters birthday. Must say we're very pleased with it. And she loves it. 14 April 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good basic keyboard Simple basic keyboard with all the features you would want for a first keyboard. Seems robust enough to withstand a toddler playing with it, though it is quite light. The demo songs are fun for kids to "play along with" but I would love to know what the 10 song titles are as my child is obsessed with one of the songs, but we cannot identify it. John Lewis, please could you supply a list of what the 10 songs are? 29 March 2015
