John Lewis Loft Cabinet
Filing cabinet which almost does the job ...
Arrives in a big box. May need more than one person to get it out, as it is securely packaged, and a bit cumbersome.
Contrary to other reviews I found the wheels reasonabley easy to attach to the bottom of the unit, using a ratchet screwdriver. I imagine using a non-ratchet one would make the job very tedious.
Flip the unit over onto its new wheels, and it is easy to move around. The drawers are nicer than I expected, but quite shallow.. The notches for the A4 support rod are in the wrong place (just a bit too close to the front of the drawer) and the rod could do with being a bit longer. I fixed this latter problem with a bit of blu-tac.
Unit now sits in the corner next to my computer desk, supporting an all-in-one printer. and providing a home for the printer consumables.
I am very happy with this purchase.

Does it's job - with a little help
The grooves into which the rod is inserted to hold the A4 files are not quite far enough away from the other end of the drawer which makes the files a very tight fit.
Also, very annoyingly, not enough care was taken to keep the rod perfectly straight which means that as more files are set up eventually they cannot fit in. This can easily be rectified if you have the right tools but of course this should not be necessary. Very poor quality control.

This is a nice cabinet, solid and functional. The drawers run smoothly. All we had to do was attach the casters. I cannot see why it is specifically called a loft cabinet, it could go in any room.

First delivery was very poor quality and looked like it had been on the shop floor for months being kicked about. Badly chipped on the edges of the veneer and looked generally worn and dirty. Second delivery also had chipped edges but more disguised on the inner edges so covered by drawers till they were pulled out. Not the quality I would expect from john Lewis.
I had the same product delivered last year for my daughters room and had no such problems. Castors were tricky then but possible. Quality has definitely gone downhill.

Just what I wanted!
I am delighted with my John Lewis Loft Cabinet; not only does it look good buat it is also extremely pracatical.

Just the job
I have already got the Loft desk and one Loft cabinet which have been excellent but I needed more space for papers, letters, files etc. The two cabinets fit perfectly under the desk and although this doesn't leave much space for my knees this isn't a problem because the shelf pulls out of the desk when I need to use my lap top. Not only is it an efficient use of space it looks good even in my sitting room.

Poorly constructed - 3 delivered and 3 returned
On the first delivered cabinet, the top of the cabinet had been attached at an angle rather than square on.
On the second replacement cabinet the drawer runners were attached using the wrong type of screw so tore out of the wood on first use.
On the third replacement cabinet the incorrect screws were used again so the middle drawer fell out. In addition the whole cabinet is misaligned so the gaps around the drawers were not even. This is nowhere near the sort of quality we have learnt to expect from John Lewis.

File support rod
I had to wait a long time for the Cabinet and when it arrived the rod that supports the files is too short! No use at all. I now have to find a longer rod, but where from? Being disabled. I can't just go to a hardware shop, so rely on John Lewis to get it right. Otherwise the Cabinet looks good.
