John Lewis Loft Desk
Not up to standard.
This product has the potential to be lovely but the quality control is rubbish. I had decided to ignore the poor reviews and kept my fingers crossed all would be ok. Delivery was prompt and the guys were helpful carrying it to where I wanted it. It was packed well and showed no sign of damage. When I unpacked it I discovered that on two separate parts there where splits in the wood close to where they had drilled. The wood did not join on one part due to the split and there was a gap of 10mm. This should have been picked up during the manufacturing process. It was very obvious and left a large gap down the top right hand side. JL has promised to call in the next 7 days to arrange pick up. Frustrating!

good piece of furniture just what I needed.
Good for what I need it for, however the assembly instructions took a bit to decypher (20 minutes to assemble) I think not.

Great desk! Easy to put together. Looks great and works well for our uses. Nice and compact when not in use and big enough to work on from home.

John Lewis Loft Desk
Excellent! Just as described. Can't understand all the "silly" reviews above regarding assembly and quality. The quality is exactly as described. I am Disabled and a female friend who, by no means is experienced in furniture assembly, assembled it all for me in about 1 1/2 hours. Everything fitted perfectly as it said on the instructions. The desk is really solid and sturdy, I have an old eMac sitting on the top shelf.

If possible, I'd give this desk zero stars.
Really disappointed with the quality of this desk. Ultimately, the price of something is irrelevant if it's not actually fit for purpose, and this desk falls squarely into that category. The biggest issues are 1) alignment, 2) quality of fixings, and 3) finish, about which more below:
1) The alignment is the biggest issue and after a frustratingly ling time, we were left with a desk that clearly doesn't fit together. There are non-matching gaps, and, worst of all, two of the Leg Bolts won't even screw in so they are left flush.
2) The quality of the fixings is also a major problem. Even when carefully following the instructions to the letter - do NOT overturn, etc - the screws and leg bolts both 'threaded' Seriously, what's the point in using fixings that can't cope with a single assembly session?
3) From a dirty handprint, to a clearly bumpy surface (on the 'smooth' curve of the top 'hutch') the finish simply lacks attention to detail. This desk should not have got past quality control.
In summary, the desk we received was a really poor effort. And it's going back - once we've gone to the trouble of taking it apart, and repacking it of course. Most frustratingly, it shouldn't even have left the factory, and the end result is a lot of wasted time and effort. (Not to mention one disappointed daughter.)
Not impressed with this JLP...

Poor quality- expected more from John Lewis
First desk arrived. The leg was split. Second desk.. A worse crack on the unit piece. The quality is far too poor for the price and john Lewis standards. Awful product. Returned for 2nd time and purchased another desk from elsewhere.

Bolts do not match
I bought this desk and found the same problem as other reviewers as the bolts did not fit. I spoke to a local DIY business and it turns out that the bolts provided are imperial measurements, while the insets of the desk are metric. I was sold four metric bolts of size M6 at 40p each and they fit perfectly.
Other than that (rather large problem), the desk is great.

Great Looking - Impossible to Put Together
I have liked the look of this desk for a long time, and when I bought my new home I was eager to get it for the spare room/office. What a mistake.
I have had the desk for about 2 weeks, and it is still in pieces on the bedroom floor.
The alignment of the holes for the bolts and cam-locks is not correct. The cam-locks them self are made of such soft white metal, that as soon as you put pressure on them to lock into place, they split in half.
I have put together a multitude of flat-pack furniture items from Ikea and of late Next (who had a terrible reputation for furniture assembly…), but this item is, by far, the worst item I have ever come across. Customer service have been helpful, and I don't really want to get rid of this desk as I really like the quality of the actual item (as it does not have any issues with veneer or finish as some others have had…) but I fear I am going to have to ask for it to be collected and a refund issued, and seek a desk somewhere else. Which, as an ardent John Lewis customer does really "upset" me, for want of a better word.
Please do think twice before buying this item.
