The finish on the first one was not up to scratch and the veneer had a number of faults with it. Happily replaced and i would recommend the desk. Excellent, flexible desk for smaller spaces.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JKB47 Nice looking desk but disappointing quality
I have mixed feelings about this desk. After receiving 2 damaged desks which were returned I finally received a third in good condition. I feel there is a weakness in design with the fixing of the loft part of the desk to the legs - two of the four holes for the fixing bolts were too small for the supplied washers and the bolts too short to fix the loft part adequately. So although the desk is an attractive piece of furniture, in my experience it is of doubtful quality. I' m surprised John Lewis doesn't insist on more rigorous checks at the manufacturing stage. Of course, JL put things right without hesitation, even though they did manage to charge me twice, and gave a generous goodwill refund in the light of my overall experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by whatfor Very good design
I saw this desk on display in a branch of John Lewis not near my home so ordered it online after reading the reviews. I had thought it was solid wood, but it's not, hence 4 stars instead of 5. The bottom part is wood but I think the shelf and upper parts might be chipboard with a wood veneer. But it is an excellent design and does the job. My husband put it together in about half an hour; the instructions are poor. The shelf slides out when needed. I'm very pleased with it.

Loft desk and pedestal ordered in oak. Holes were too big and screws simply fell out. The desk was in oak the pedestal in light ash! All sent back.

We loved the design of this desk but felt the quality could have been better as some edges weren't flush. In the end we had to return it as we had an issue with the cabinet (couldn't attach the wheels) and as we wanted a matching cabinet and desk we had to look elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by spellbags An excellent piece of furniture; styling and sleek!
I was looking for a desk that needed to fit into a low space; a loft in fact! Due to recently moving into s new places as a mature student.
Having looked at several oprtions, this was the perfect fit. It is elegant, stylish and sleek. It is extremely easy to assemble; I am aware that I'm a man but managed it perfectly well one own. All the piece were there and the perfect size and fit.
I am delighted with it and love to sit and work at it.
Everyone that's been to visit has commented about how nice it is!
Thank John Lewis; a dither triumph and further evidence that your slogan should be 'a little bit of Heaven here on Earth'

Rated 2 out of 5 by jrw808 Expect better from John Lewis
I bought this desk two years ago and it receives very light usage on days I work from home.
The veneer at the front of the desk is peeling and chiping for no reason (it isn't banged at all) but just peeling away.
Expect much better from JL and could get something similar for half the cost if I only wanted something to last a couple of years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by juliacwa Good teenagers desk
We bought two of these for our children aged 11 and 13, they unpacked and assembled them by themselves this morning- I tried to assist with the first one only hindering progress, it took 30 mins. The second one took them 20 mins without me. Only tip is that the instructions do not say attach the flat part of the desk to the "hutch" first with screws E and then put that on the legs with screws A, my 13 year old worked this out v quickly. The desk looks good, much of it plywood with veneer but for the price an excellent purchase. When slid open the flat desk is plenty large enough. I was really nervous after reading some of the reviews but it was straightforward - don't let them put you off. Cubby holes can hold an A4 sheet and raised shelf could hold a monitor.
