John Lewis Loft Simple Desks
Bought this with matching cabinet (see seperate review).
Despite a big impact in the side of the box and interior packaging the desk components were undamaged.
Assembly was going well until one of the quarter turn screws sheared off in the hole for the back plate.
Decided there and then to get a refund after having the damaged cabinet and started to question the quality and durability of these products.
Taken back to the store for a refund.

What A Mess!
I was looking for a simple desk the bedroom. It looked nice so I made the purchase. It arrived flat pack, so i got myself ready to put it together.
I finished constructing this desk after many hours of work.
The wood is very soft, and while the instructions told that careful screwing is need, the screws chewed into the wood and didn't grip.
Well, Its up, but I've got three screws that will still turn but not grip! What a hot mess.

After reading reviews I ordered this desk with some trepidation, mostly because I could not find anything else that was small and simple. Unfortunately I have to confirm that the desk was not easy to put together, holes do not line up, and overall the quality is poorer than I would expect from John Lewis. Now it is in situ it looks quite nice and is the perfect size that I wanted. However one leg is not quite straight and the veneer on the front edge is a bit rough. Small defects, not worth sending it back for, but such a shame as with a bit more quality control it could be perfect. I know it is priced low, but I for one would be prepared to pay more for a quality product, as I suspect would many John Lewis customers.

You would imagine that a piece of furniture as small as this would take no time to assemble. Consequently it's infuriating when the pre-drilled holes don't match up to the appropriate places and a five minute job becomes much longer. Also one of the metal screw locking devices broke apart; this may be an expected issue as 2 extra ones were supplied.
All that said, the desk does look attractive and should suit my ten year old very well.

Not wearing well
I've had this desk for about a year and as a writer I am using it at home daily. I have a pc screen and keyboard on it. I have noticed recently that the veneer seems to be fading in colour or wearing under the keyboard,, and on the front edge of the desk the layer of veneer is wearing away.
This is disppointing because what was a nice piece of furniture is now looking slightly shabby in no time at all. I look after my furniture so it hasn't had a hammering- just normal use.

Well made desk
I was pleased with the John Lewis delivery. They phoned in advance letting me know exactly when they would arrive. The desk was very well packed and arrived in perfect condition. It is made of good quality wood and easily put together. It is a simple desk which is what we wanted and fits perfectly into small space in our study

Nice Little Desk, but a little to high
Nice little Desk . Quality could be better managed to snap two of the lock together nuts without even putting much pressure on them metal not realy up to the job. Day before, I had assembled an IKEA similar product which had much stronger hardwear for connecting the piaces together. That said It is a nice desk, better suited to a laptop but I use it with a desktop with computer main unit on the floor under neith the desk . My only crib is the desk top is to high for both a Laptop, keyboard or writing .You need a hieght adjustable chair to sit at it for long, and then my feet are not suported on the floor . It is in a spair Bedroom/Office and my wife says it makes a nice dressind table when I remove the keyboard .
