John Lewis Mitchell Bookcase, H122cm
Back Panel Assembly Blues!
Once built, it is a good looking and sturdy bookcase. Mostly the assembly instructions are clear and easy to follow..... until it comes to screwing in the twelve back panel fasteners. After struggling with the first couple, I gave up and drilled pilot holes for the rest.

All purpose Bookcase
This item was certainly value for money. The spacing between each shelf was just the right height for so many of our books. The only negative aspect was the paleness of the colour even so it still blended in with our existing furniture.

I am delighted with the Bookcase. It was simple to assemble, is of very good quality and is sturdy and stable when filled with heavy books.

Mitchell bookcase - good value
Easy to assemble, clear instructions and fully drilled and laid out. Light colour for oak but good sized bookcase at reasonable cost

Just what was needed
This bookcase was just what for a newly decorated room. The instructions were easy enough to understand and it went together well. In fact my 10 year old managed to do a lot of the work. A good solid product all round.

A solid product but design needs improvement!
I bought two of these bookcases to fill a very precise space which they have succeeded in doing admirably. They are simple to put together and their cam-lock and glue construction produces an extremely satisfying solid structure, easily capable of holding a full load of books with no difficulty or movement. However, there does seem to be a slight problem with the design in that the two adjustable shelves end up sitting slightly proud of the shelf uprights. This appears to be due to the plastic joining strips of the back panel preventing the shelves from sitting back snugly against this panel. I carefully had to file rebates in the back of the shelves to allow them to fit neatly around these strips and this seems to have fixed the problem. Not normally something I would expect to have to do with JL self assembly furniture but at least, perhaps, it gave me the feel of a more traditional hand-crafted piece!
It is also worth noting that the upper and lower shelves are both adjustable, although the middle one is fixed - this was not mentioned in the product description on-line when I ordered mine. A quick call to Customer Services gave me the necessary information - they also told me it was oak veneer when in fact the enclosed product information revealed it to be melamine. However, it is a very good quality and convincing 'fake', although I would also more accurately describe its colour as limed oak - it is very pale.
The bottom line though is, yes, I'm generally very happy - a good product and worth the effort!
