John Lewis New Fine European Duck Down Standard Pillow, Medium
ultimately not usable!
This pillow would have been ideal but sadly we were defeated by the awful farmyard smell which just does not dissipate. Earnestly hope the manufacture investigates this urgently!

Comfortable (soft) pillow
The pillow is soft, but just about supportive enough for me. It works as a top pillow over a harder one. I haven't suffered feathers poking through that I read of with some pillows. It does need a good airing though. I don't think the smell out of the bag is as offensive as some would have you believe, but I would give it serveral days as a minimum.

The pillow is average - reasonably comfortable but the smell is really disturbing. I washed it, aired it out, sprayed it with dettol - it just won't come out! I have to buy a new pillow as this one was a waste of money.

I find this pillow both soft and scrunchable - unlike the foam filled variety.
It does not exhibit the unpleasant odours characteristic of other similar products.
Good value and highly recommended.

Duck down and feather pillows
Having spent about 2 years, and a lot of money trying to find decent pillows, I have finally found them. As with all natural pillows and quilts, you need to air them before using, but mine were on the bed and ready to be slept on in a couple of hours. I am now sleeping really well at night because they're so comfortable.

Comfort and luxury
I have always been a fan of duck or goose down pillows and duvets and nothing else would do for me. I recently replenished on my pillow stock and bought these. They are excellent and very comfortable. Superb sleep on these pillows. As for the other reviews regarding the smell - a good advice was provided by JL staff to air the pillows for a couple of days before using them. The smell disappears with airing, but as I have grown up with bedding filled with natural down, it doesn't bother me. The smell does go away in time and with airing and all bedding from natural materials should be aired regularly. No substitute for synthetics would ever do for me. Thank you John Lewis and I hope you keep this excellent product on your shelves.

Comfy but smell very unpleasant
I bought these pillows on 6th Feb. it's the first time I had bought some nice pillows for myself and whilst they are very comfortable, I have to say they do smell unpleasantly like a farm. The problem is I have slept on them now and I don't believe I can take them back. It's a shame that the comfort has been compromised. If they didn't smell, I would give them a much higher rating.

Shocking for the price!
Finally persuaded my other half to try duck down pillow as he normally prefers synthetic...we paid a lot more for these than we would normally pay for pillows and they are horrible . His worst nightmare the smell of DUCK!! They are not even the same, one is more puffy and more supportive but stinks of duck and the other is less full and therefore unsupportive and I might as well lie on the mattress..really unhappy and shocked by the poor quality for the price and amazed they could get onto john lewis shelves.
