John Lewis Non Sprung Divan Base, White, Kingsize
Make sure you buy a decent mattress this divan is very poorly made considering the price would not recommend this to anyone

Awful product, un-fit for purpose
I am on my second example of this divan, and it too has just given up the ghost. The item is poorly constructed, the drawers are flimsy and unable to withstand the weight of even bath towels and the base creaks. JL's comment that the manufacturer has taken steps to address the quality issues is not true! I know this because I had divans before and after the supposed improvements and they are EXACTLY the same. I shall be contacing JL shortly as my second divan is less than a year old. Very disappointed indeed.

Poor quality and where are the instructions??
No instructions, wheels don't stay in place. Very poor quality from John Lewis!

Cheap but drawers are flimsy and base creaky
We bought this end December despite some bad reviews as John Lewis had commented that manufacturer was addressing issues.
On the day bed was delivered I realised one of the drawers had already come apart inside the base, I re-glued/nailed the back/sides on to avoid hassle of exchanging, and John Lewis credited some money as goodwill which was fine.
In the first 2 months two more drawers have fallen apart so I've reglued/nailed them to repair but more annoyingly the base has started creaking when I get into bed. I will investigate in case its a loose wheel or similar but suspect not so will probably be contacting customer services to see what can be done, sounds like this may be an issue with this model, so a replacement may not be any better ?

Excellent Value for Money
I had looked around quite extensively for an inexpensive Divan Base with drawers. And this one from John Lewis was a good deal.
Its actually quite a good base but more importantly the draws hold a lot of things.
The only con I have; is that the draw rails feel flimsy and I would have preferred wooden ones.

Don't even bother!
I read the mixed reviews about this product and thought I'd order it anyway trusting in the John Lewis name. This was in December 2011. My husband put the base together using the very limited instructions. He's a tradesman and commented that if you didn't know what you were doing you would struggle to put the base together yourself. In the first week one of the runners on one of the drawers broke, the drawer contained bedding and it wasn't overloaded. The drawer still opens and closes but only with great difficulty. This weekend my husband sat on the bed with a bump and the bed made a loud cracking sound (he isn't overweight in case you're wondering). The base has collapsed on the side he sat on and dips badly. I will be calling John Lewis this weekend to arrange a full refund. Not impressed.

better than expected
after reading the other reviews i wondered if this would be a waste of time, not the case yes it`s glued /stapled /etc but its a lot better quality than the silent night divan its replacing. the drawers are strong the fabric is a good quality and a nice colour. as for instructions if people can write a review for it they can google to see how to to put wheels on the base ???????

Quite poor quality
The drawers are just glued together with a bit of wood glue and come apart easily - I've had to slap gaffer tape on all of them to make sure they stay stuck together. The strips of fabric that hold the drawers in for delivery are just stapled on and are pretty difficult to remove. Overall, not quite sure how they justify the price tag. Still, pretty comfortable to sleep on, but I reckon that's got more to do with the mattress.
