John Lewis Roller Blind Safety Spring Mechanism
Really easy to fit and just what I needed
I recommend this to change up an existing roller blind or make your own .

Why no pull-cords?
Like other reviewers I assumed the kit would contain a pull cord and a means of attaching it. I am surprised that John Lewis would sell something that is so obviously incomplete. I am annoyed that I have to go out and find something.

I am afraid I have to echo the other reviewers' poor reviews for this product. Bought for my baby's nursery to fit John Lewis roller blinds to create a safer environment for my child, we are about to return this item for the third time. We initially bought two and my husband (who is more than competent in DIY) fitted the first (having also fitted one, albeit not easily, in the past to our kitchen blind). The one for the second window refused to work adequately and we have exchanged that item twice since. Tomorrow I go back to replace it again. Incredibly frustrating and a complete waste of our time.

Actually not that bad if you get one that works
The first one I got would not unwind whichever way i pulled it and frustratingly I forced it till it broke and fell apart in my hands. I left all the fittings up and took the broken part back to Lewis's who replaced it without question and even let me test a number of replacements so that I was sure that the next one would work. Extremely polite and made me feel good - what training - appreciated. This next one does work and has been working beautifully for the last 3 months. It may be a bit more delicate than the fatter tubed bigger springed variety that I have used in the past but it is easier to draw the blind up and down. I hope it lasts as there aren't many places you can get these springs on their own.

Disappointed there is no pull cord or pull cord attachment
I bought this as the blind I chose does not have the spring mechanism. I thought that the kit would have everything included to make this blind into a spring roller blind, but it does not include a pull cord or attachment for a pull cord. When you have high windows, as we do, a pull cord is a necessity to be able to lower your blinds in the evening. The pull cord does come with those blinds that come as spring action (such as for a children's room) so why not as part of this kit?

Failed to meet expectations
I bought this on the strength of a description which indicated that it fitted all John Lewis blinds. It didnt fit mine albeit an old blind.
The product description should make clear the size (eg diameter of spool) of blind which it works with.

We bought five of these to convert John Lewis standard blinds as we have small children but they are truly awful. They don't roll down or up smoothly and get stuck. They were tricky to put together and two of the original five had to be returned because they broke completely. The two replacements have been no better.
We bought spring blinds from another supplier at the same time which were easy to fit and work well so we know it's not our lack of DIY skills.

Have just purchased this for my grandson's bedroom but try as I might I cannot get it working. I have followed John Lewis video guide but after pulling it down to shelf level it will not wind up again. Hoping to get it working as it seems an excellent idea, very safe for a small child and the blackout blind purchased with it is excellent. If I can get it working I would give it 5 stars.
