Does what it does
I found this straight forward to construct but the instructions could be a bit clearer, step 2 for instance seems to show the end cover fitted before the seat back stop, which doesn't go.
In use the machine works very well and the control panel has lots of workout settings if that floats your boat (pun intended).

Nice product, shame about the service from the manufacturer
We bought this product, rather than one we'd originally intended to buy, after a thorough test of several rowing machines at the Cambridge store and the information provided by a very helpful member of staff.
It was easy to install. It is compact, quiet, intuitive to use, comfortable and suitable for both of us both despite our different sizes and strength.
We would have given 5 stars but for the service from the manufacturer.
On delivery we discovered a minor but unacceptable fault with the console. John Lewis directed us to the manufacturer, Johnson Health Tech. The service has been inept. After more than 1 month and multiple phone calls they still haven't done what they have repeatedly said they would do. We've variously been told a console is with an engineer to be installed for us or is being dispatched that day. Neither turned out to be true. We now have a courier tracking number so the end may be in sight.....
John Lewis have been sympathetic and helpful so, despite the problem with a part, we recommend the product.

Early days...
...in fact early minutes... :-)
My wife bought me this machine for my birthday. It needed a bit of thought to assemble it (be in a big room when you do), but everything was provided and it wasn't rocket science, though it took a bit of headscratching to find the socket for the power, which isn't on the computer as I expected but on the right side of the body right at ground level.
The first impressions are how extremely quiet it is. I was expecting a trundling noise which would make the house reverberate, but the nylon wheels are very smooth and there's hardly any sound at all - so watching TV won't need headphones after all, and I won't have neighbours pounding on my walls or front door.
I haven't had time to check it all out, and I may amend this review (if that's possible) after more use, but first impressions are very good. The one place which does show a bit of cost-cutting is in the computer wiring connections, which look a bit cheap & fragile. Otherwise I'm very pleased.

Great value for money
This rowing machine is basic - but it is very well constructed and designed, and does exactly what it says on the box. The machine folds up for easy storage, but is sturdy and secure when in use. As well as manual settings, the computer has various programs which allow the user to progress from gentle introductory sessions to the kind of more demanding work which will give a good cardio workout of both upper and lower body. After a month of using this machine I am very satisfied, and recommend it without hesitation.

Good Value Rower
This rower is well-constructed, sturdy and definitely good value for money. I'm so glad I didn't spend more getting a well-known brand as this rower does the job just as well for a fraction of the price.

Great Rower
I have recently bought a John Lewis RW3 Rower and find that my experience is a bit different from the previous reviewer’s comments. I wonder if that rower might have been faulty.
The Rower is quite easy to assemble although I did need one of my own spanners in addition to the one provided, to hold one of the bolts while tightening the locknut. It is a bit lighter, folds up and is relatively compact compared with some other machines. It is smooth and quiet in operation and has 16 levels of magnetic resistance with the lowest (roughly 1 calorie per 5 strokes) being very easy and the highest (roughly 1 calorie per stroke) still quite feasible for someone of reasonable strength and fitness to sustain.
This Rower does require a power supply but because it is electronically / magnetically controlled it provides a variety of workouts which some other Rowers do not have. Resistance levels can be set manually or can be selected to vary with time according to any one of 12 preset or 4 user defined programmes. The intensity of each programme can be adjusted each time it is used and targets can be set for time, distance and calories.
The instructions could be a bit clearer but the controls soon become familiar with use and overall I think the John Lewis rower is great.

Fold away Rower
One of my favorite ways to exercise is to row, and using the John Lewis Rower is just the machine for the job.
With it's magnetic resistance giving you a smooth and easy motion allowing you to achieve your training goals. High level of resistance and a great number of programs to work with, also has 4 user profiles so you can create your own training program.
Suitable for all age groups and anyone up to the high of 6ft 3'' folds away for easy storage.
