Rated 4 out of 5 by Natalie8 Beautiful but fragile - worth the patience needed
First purchase was faulty, second was fine - excellent return service is always a reason to use JL. Lights look beautiful. You MUST follow the instructions and have patience. Very good lights for over the dining table. Everyone who has seen them has loved them. I am very happy with the purchase and have recommended other lights in this collection to friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sirhowybird A Statement Light - Gorgeous & Tips For Installation
This was purchased with a great deal of trepidation, however this was easily installed.
Some tips for you:-
When shortening the wires loop the excess round and secure with insulation tape and rest them in the actual light fitting 'trough".
Definitely two person job,
When filling the glass bulb shades, rest each shade on a towel horizontally and gently feed the beads in slowly.
Finally (this wasted one hour and three phone calls to local stores) if you find an A4 double sided red font warning in 12 different languages stating - WARNING you must use enclosed tool to fit shades onto light fittings - it doesn't exist, there is no tool !!! Each glass shade comes packaged in a bubble wrap envelope, fill with beads whilst keeping it in this bubble envelope, this is great for two reasons, ONE - it stops you getting fingerprints on the glass and TWO - hold the glass shades by the neck and bottom of shade and simply push on, not at an angle,, this was the panic stage for us as we honestly thought we would break them.
The final result is stunning and worth the investment.
I hope the above helps you.

Having reviewed both the good and not so good feedback and after waiting for this to come back into stock I am absolutely delighted I decided to go with this light, it looks amazing!
Yes it was work having to put it up. In fact both my partner and I were on standby to help the electrician after reading it was possibly more than a one man job and it certainly was.
The instructions are simple to say the least and could so easily be re-written to help, for example; measure the height you want the lights at and adjust the cords before putting it up as once the plate is up you can make the light higher but not lower as the wires are held in place with screws. Also as the ceiling fitting is a long bar and the ends have one small screw hole you need to be ambidextrous and have long arms to hold one end up whilst attaching the other (unless you have help of course).
The lights are bright so I can see why you might wish for a dimmer however I stuck with the usual switch rather than risking blowing the transformer.
I am so happy with this purchase and pleased I was able to make a balanced and informed choice from the other reviews.

We have put up the light but it really is not worth the price. We had to put the wiring into the loft as there isnt enough room under the fixing plate, the chrome cover rocks and when you shorten the wiring for the length of lights it pokes out of the side of the fixing. The whole thing feels cheap, you have to put all the glass beads into the glass shades, and carefully place the chrome stem into the shade with the halogen bulb. It does look pretty when lit though, and it is unusual.

I had waited weeks for this to come back into stock so was really pleased when I got it. An electrician fitted into our new orangery he switched it on once....... Absolutely stunning! Worth waiting for BUT....... 10 minutes later I said pop the lights back on so I can view them from a distance and no lights. I was so disappointed. The electrician checked everything but said it had to be the transformer. My husband called JL customer services and they arranged for a replacement to be with us by Monday (this was on Saturday ) the replacement arrived as promised. Unfortunately 2 of the glass shades were broken but we just used the original ones. It is now up and working. All the time it keeps working it is worth every penny, it is so simple but so beautiful. Even when it's not on, in our orangery with the daylight filtering through it it is truly stunning. Marked down one star because of the first one but JL responded 100% when the first one was faulty, thank you

Yes, when you look at the sum of the parts of this item; have TAKEN YOUR TIME with unpacking, assembling & installing then it is a rewarding experience.
The TOTAL light cast is probably the same as a typical 60w incandescent bulb - but the intention, I think, and the basic tenet of the design, is to position the lights lowish over your dining table - so measure your screw holes in the ceiling carefully!
The refracted light from the glass beads does create a great effect. Worth the outlay then - but do follow the (rather sketchy) instructions especially when installing the beads in the bulbs - they're delicate but robust enough.
(Uses step down transformer - don't even think about a dimmer!#
It's probably a 2 person job to hook the strip plate into the mains on first install #tho' I struggled/managed myself).

These lights look amazing and are of the quality you expect from
John Lewis. They stretched our budget to the max but were worth every penny. We have them hung off a wooden beam and they look amazing. Really pleased. You need to follow the instructions carefully about inserting the beads but well worth the effort. Highly recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Am77 Great looking lamp, transformer keeps blowing!
This lamp is a stunning design and gives out great light really lifting the room. Unfortunately the transformer keeps blowing up! Im working with John lewis to find a solution, in short if you are using a dimmable system, think twice before purchasing as the transformer cant cope. I like the lamp so much im determined to keep it and somehow fix the problem with the help of an electrician.
