Q & As

Rated 2.1 out of 5 by 77 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Unresponsive product Unlike other reviewers, I have no trouble with the back light. The button on the back sorted that one out. However, the buttons do not respond to the function. Pressed volume minus and the snooze function came up for 15 mins. Couldn't reset the snooze, so waited but the radio didn't come on after the time. Pressed alarm 2 and it changed the radio station. Pressed volume plus and the radio switched off. Took 20 mins to set the alarm first time (buttons not responding) and now can't change the alarm at all. It's a shame because I love the size and the colours of this product. 20 January 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Badly thought through product A huge disappointment from a brand I usually trust to deliver quality and thoughtful design. As another reviewer put it, this is a shallow design. A clock radio by definition ought to be able to tell you the time and play the radio AT THE SAME TIME, not one or the other. I might as well have just bought a radio. This is particularly problematic given this is an alarm clock that you use to wake up - ie: a point in the day where knowing the time is fairly important. In addition, in order not to be kept up at night by the unhealthy blue light (which at its most dim still lights up the room), I have set the backlight to turn off, but this means it's impossible to tell the time during the day and at night. Terrible product. 08 January 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Looks nice but how do you set the Alarms? Bought this for my wife and, as it is only an alarm clock, threw away the instructions. Who needs instructions to set an alarm clock!! Oops, ME!! Can someone please direct me to where i can download an online version of the manual. I have no problems with brightness or reception but it was purchased as an alarm clock, its currently an ornament. Thanks 06 January 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by A waste of money The John Lewis name usually gives confidence but not in this case. As a radio, it's fine. As a clock radio, it's useless. It is the most needlessly complicated piece of equipment I've ever owned - so I still rely on my mobile to get me up in the morning. It is much too bright at night (pleased to note another reviewer finds it too dim during the day - I thought I was losing my sight!). So I, too, am very disappointed with my clock radio that I have to face to the wall because it's too light to sleep by and I have to use my mobile's alarm to get me up. John Lewis own brand, please do better. 02 January 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Very disappointed I've had this product for roughly 2 months, hoping I'd get used to it. Sadly not. It is unnecessarily complicated to use (setting the alarn requires multiple button presses#, the display is far too bright, even when dimmed, the buttons are rubbery, not responsive and often stick, the button to turn the alarm off is tiny and towards the back in a row of other similar buttons #not what you want when you're hald asleep and trying to turn it off),and when the radio is on, you lose the time display! All in all it is a very poor design and not worthy of the John Lewis name or the price. I've wasted my money and will have to cut my losses and look for an alternative. 30 December 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Stopped working after 7 months I bought one of these in May 2014. After being unplugged for 5 days at Christmas, it is now completely dead. I have another John Lewis DAB radio from the same range which is also mysteriously dead. Both will be going back. 28 December 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Super little radio alarm clock Don't listen to all the reviews that say the display is too bright. Read the instructions, go into settings and it can be set at whatever level you want. I have it more or less off (level 5). If you wake in the night, touch a button and the time is displayed for however many seconds you want (starting from 10 seconds). Sound quality is good for this price. Read through all the reviews, not just the negative ones from those who haven't read the instructions (or the other reviews). 28 December 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Looks good, poor performer Bought this as a replacement for a similar item bought from JL in 1978. That one lasted thirty years before degrading but the quality and design was good, legible clock, easy station selection and simple controls. This new radio looks great and neat but the design is shallow and I don't think was tested before production, clock very difficult to read as numbers too close and first digit bright but each adjacent digit is dimmer. Sounds like a 1960s transitor radio. DAB good if you live next to the transmitter. Not sure this is JL quality. 27 December 2014
