Q & As

John Lewis Spectrum DAB/FM Digital Radio 3.9 5 145 145
breaks down easily I got one for the 2013 New Year as was stylish, simple to use and reasonably priced. It broke down 3-4 months later and I got a replacement. The replacement broke a few months later. Got the third one and it lasted for a year but would sometimes switch itself off. A month ago the third radio broke down and I cant find the receipt to return it. I am afraid it is a rubbish radio. 27 October 2014
Looks good but breaks easily I have not experienced any problems with this radio apart from the charging point. I really like the look of it, it is a really nice size and I love the colours. However, my first radio stopped charging a couple of weeks after I bought it. It would work on batteries but not when plugged into the wall. I think the bit where it had charged had come loose. I took it back and got the same one again, but then the same thing happened yesterday again. So I will be taking it back today and getting a different product, likely to pay a bit more and upgrade to a pure radio. 19 October 2014
Terrible I didn't expect HiFi but the sound quality was terrible. There was a pre-echo with music on every station and speech was so unclear, I really had to concentrate to understand. It was completely unusable & I took it back. Perhaps I got a bad one 15 October 2014
Great little unit! But . . . Bought this set for my son last year, and he really likes it! But since we live in Norway and Norway now switches to the DAB PLUS system, this radio has become almost useless. Lots of new stations will never be reached. JohnLewis should absolutely inform about this for all their DAB radio sets - wether ordinary DAB or DAB PLUS! 15 October 2014
Have given up on this product I bought a white Spectrum radio last October via Click and Collect (an excellent service). About 4 months ago it died completely.. no signal, no illuminated frontage, nothing. I returned it to the Oxford Street John Lewis when visiting London and they exchanged it for another Spectrum as I had been quite happy with it whilst it was working. About a month later the station control knob got stuck and I was subjected to an endless diet of the World Service (a wonderful station but not all the time, particularly when you want to hear The Archers). Last Saturday, being in London I again went to the Oxford Street store and again they exchanged it for another Spectrum as I requested. I got it home, put it on and found that I could only receive 6 DAB stations and none of them BBC. So Today I will shortly be leaving Hove again for London and another, final visit to John Lewis to get full refund. Its both annoying and frustrating as I really enjoy having a radio in the kitchen whilst I work but this product is hopeless. 11 October 2014
Warning The instruction booklet lists all sorts of warning e.g. not to use the product outdoors. It fails to mention that if you use it from the mains you need to remove the batteries. We had to replace the radio because the batteries leaked and messed up the inside so it no longer worked 05 October 2014
Great product but... Stylish, good value, plenty of decent features, great colour choice, feels good to the touch - but the battery life is ridiculous. After a couple of weeks (literally) of use in our bathroom (so no mains supply), the radio ceased functioning and I couldn't work out why; until I realised the batteries needed replacing. Yes, the radio is good value but batteries are pricey! 01 October 2014
Great value DAB/FM Radio I'd been looking for a DAB radio for the bathroom for some time. This fits the bill perfectly. Rubberised finish, Simple to use, this radio has great reception in a room where previous FM/AM radio struggled. Only gripe - 4 x AA Batteries lasted about 6 weeks which seems fast to drain them. Will try rechargeables but very happy with the product. 30 September 2014
