John Lewis Stovetop Whistling Kettle 3 5 4 4
Very smart I have been looking for a smart red kettle for our induction hob and this fits the bill. As others say there are no internal capacity markings. I like the matt finish. I have not found the handle or whistle get too hot. I tend to only boil what I need and don't leave boiling for ages. My only problem has been is that after a month it stopped whistling. I returned to John Lewis who agreed to exchange. Then I was caught by a Partner who asked if I had adjusted to whistle? Essentially if your kettle stops whistling, using a screwdriver or blunt ended kitchen knife, loosen the screw inside and then align the holes on the inner plate with the outer knob. Sounds complicated but when you have it in front of you it'll be clear! And now the whistle is back and i never miss my chance of a cup of tea! 01 February 2014
Hot Whistle! Kettle was fine although took a while to boil, but the whistle being all metal got too hot to handle when the kettle was boiling. Should have a plastic end. 17 December 2013
looks lovely I looked long and hard before deciding on this kettle after many years of electric ones, and wanting to free up work surface . This is really a good looking kettle and although it holds quite a lot of water, it does not look big on the hob. However it takes an incredibly long time to come to the boil , a litre took over 10 minutes. Also I was misled by the description, it doesn't have any inner capacity markings, which I would have liked. The comfortable handle gets warm ,not hot, and can be easily used once the kettle is boiled, but the whistle being all stainless steel needs a cloth. I will just have to allow sufficient time to boil it and not be in too much of a hurry for a cup of tea, as the look of it on my hob makes up for the wait. 14 June 2013
Good kettle no markings The box & website state "It also features inner capacity markings". It doesn't. However, it looks good, boils quickly on our induction hob, whistles well and is easy to fill. The soft-feel handle is very comfortable. Minor issues: 1. Unsurprisingly, the metal part of the kettle handle and the lid and whistle handles all get hot - be careful. 2. Make sure you push the lid on properly. Even a tiny gap can allow steam out to scald you when you pick it up by the handle. 3. If you fancy a red one, go to the shop, Only black ones are available on-line. 24 May 2013
