Choosing your tap

Choose the perfect tap for your kitchen

Below are a few options and features to consider when choosing your perfect kitchen tap. Taps are largely about style and preference although they can have several useful features:

Aerators (also called flow constrictors). These are anti-splash, but also mix air with your water, creating a good pressure, at the same time as saving water. If you are simply rinsing plates or cutlery these can give a great saving.
Filter taps These work in the same way as a water filter jug, except they filter as you draw water from the mains, therefore giving you limitless filtered water. They remove bacteria, chlorine and lead from the water supply. They also remove any pesticides and insecticides which may have got into the water system. Filtered water also helps reduce the build-up of limescale in appliances. The filter cartridges for these taps need replacing every 6 months or so to retain effectiveness.
Hot taps Use a mini-boiler under the sink to provide you with instant boiling (or hot) water. You no longer need to rely on kettles or saucepans to heat water before you make a cup of tea, or boil your veg - it comes instantly from the tap. Some taps can also provide you with chilled water for cold drinks, and even sparkling water. These are great if you like fizzy drinks, but prefer to avoid additional sugar - simply mix with your favourite cordial!

Q & As

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good quality mixer tap. I ordered the tap online and had it delivered to my local Waitrose store. When I inspected it there was a flaw in the plating. John Lewis promptly dispatched a replacement, which had no flaws. My husband fitted the tap with a few problems, mostly to do with the cramped space under the sink. The tap is robust and the water is delivered with a minimum of splash. The levers are very easy to use to turn the water on and off and the spout turns very easily. I would recommend the tap and assume the first one was just a Friday afternoon production error. 08 September 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good tap We got this tap a a replacement for a leaky britta one, and it's fine as far as tap could be. It works well and no drips or leaks thus far. It's nice and shiny which is an incentive to keep it limescale free. 04 August 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quality product that works well Our hot water pressure is not high but the flow is still good, and unlike the fairly recent one that it replaces,it does NOT drip, Very smooth in operation. An excellent tap. They are often out of stock on line but stores stock them as well 29 November 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Plumber Loved these Taps! Excellent quality, stylish, easy to clean, no splash and easy to use. Plumber had no problem fitting them and commented on the high quality. Recommended 18 November 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good, but what about the cartridge details and 3/5 yr guarantee? Good general quality as you'd expect from JLP. Long levers give easier volume control than short levers. Aerator causes slightly less flow than previous non-aerator tap (also a good thing) and splashing eliminated. Two niggles: 1) Website states 5 yr guarantee, but all paperwork with tap says 3 years only. Not clear whether leaking ceramic disk seals would be covered by guarantee. 2) No details of the ceramic disk cartridge specification is included with the tap. So, if leak occurs, it requires 2 visits by plumber: first to dismantle and identify disk spec. and then second to fit repalcement disks after he has obtained them. It would be consistent with JLP thoughtfulness to include such detail with every cartridge tap they sell. Finally, Online order for collection from our local Waitrose worked very smoothly and saved a special 40 mile round trip to a JL store. 28 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these taps! These taps are so easy to turn on and off and the height of the spout means I don't have to worry about the bottom of my kettle getting wet if there's water in the sink when I fill it. All in all an excellent kitchen tap - well priced and extremely easy to use. We love it! 08 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product Looks great. Easy to use and doesn't, splash. Sale's person was very informative enabling us to choose the correct tap for our needs (suitable with low water pressure). 08 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great tap We are very pleased with the quality and look of this tap. Things you might want to consider - the curve of the tap means that when it is turned to be above our 1/2 sink, the water flow is at the edge of this smaller sink. Not a big deal. - the aerator is great as it minimises splash. However, when filling water bottles, cups etc, the bubbles result in it not actually being filled up. 06 October 2012
