John Lewis Thea 6 Spotlight Ceiling Plate
John Lewis Thea 6 Spotlight Ceiling Plate
we bought this ceiling light to go in our kitchen and we have had it for about 3-4 weeks and we have already had 2 bulbs go out and need replacing not very happy with what we have bought and certainly not up to the standard we would expect from John Lewis certainly would not recommend this product to anybody due to the short life span of the bulbs and I will be taking it up with them

Why are these fittings still on sale?
We purchased this fitting along with a three bulb one three months ago - unfortunately we did not read the reviews at the time. Both lights were installed by a qualified electrician, as recommended, and up to now we have replaced 8 bulbs, some of which were replacements for the the originals. At a loss to understand why the bulbs were failing, we looked on the John Lewis website and were very surprised to see that the same problem was reported in 2012! Why are these fittings still being sold when John Lewis are aware the lights are not of good standard? We have been into our local John Lewis store and they are replacing the lights for ones which we hope will not be as problematic. Currently, we still have the faulty fittings in place with only 5 out of the 9 bulbs working. Not good enough and not the standard we have come to expect of John Lewis.

Stylish modern look
LED bulbs are a must for this unit, the ones supplied are 50W and generate a lot of heat. Using the LED bulbs uses far less power, produces the same light output and no excess heat.

Good light but bulb issues...
Good light but bulb issues...these lights were installed at the end of April and when they work they are really good. The ability to aim the 6 lights exactly where you want them, combined with the bright light provided gives excellent coverage.
We had read the issues re the bulbs and we did experience the same problem. Now just into October and we are down to one bulb in each light (so ten blown!!).
Would recommend the light, but get some spare bulbs in ready, and with 12 of them spread across our two lights, that's no cheap replacement exercise (as going to try LEDs this time).
John Lewis really need to sort this bulb aspect out with so many people having the same problems with their not lasting very long.

Not quite right for me
I've been looking for a stunning centrepiece for the living room for more than a year. This wasn't it but thought it would be a stylish substitute in the interim. It is a pretty light - too small in appearance for my very standard sized living room, but quite contemporary, which I like. The problem I have is that as these lights are effectively spotlights, you have to point them in a particular direction. If you point them down to light up the room, the light is blinding if you're under it, so I've had to angle all of mine towards the tops of the walls so that it doesn't catch people directly in the eye and, as a result, the room is not as bright as it should be.
My solution is to not buy spotlights, but if that is what you're looking for, these are very modern and stylish. They are a pain to fit AND you will need one of those squeezy suction devices to remove the bulbs!

Worth Every Penny.
We bought two sets of these lights, so that we had 12 lights in total, in our kitchen, which is about 7/8m long by about 3m wide.
I purposely picked these lights, as it wanted plenty of light to light the whole kitchen up, and to make our granite worktops sparkle.
Lighting is very important in any room, especially a kitchen, and these lights fit the bill perfectly.
They are a brushed satin steel colour (very classy), and are very good quality; we are very happy with them, they are excellent quality at a reasonable price.
One thing to mention - the 50w GU10 bulbs supplied with these lights probably aren't of a very good quality, but in all fairness, they are just kind of starter bulbs so that you can get these lights up and running; really, they arent meant to last..
Say you buy one set of these lights; 6 x 50w of GU10 Halogen Bulb power is 300w of power; and that is why I replaced all of mine straight away with LED Bulbs (even though there was nothing wrong with the ones supplied).
The TCP LED Bulbs i bought are superb; they are the equivalent of a 50w GU10 Bulb in brightness terms, last for 25 years (yes true!), and only use 5w of power per bulb, compared to 50w per bulb with the standard 50w Halogen Bulb.
I highly recommend these lights (and buying some LED Bulbs for them too to save you some money on your electric bills !).
Thanks for reading my review.

After reading previous reviews we were a little apprehensive to how quickly the bulbs may blow, but what a fantastic product this is. We've had them over three weeks now and they really do light up our kitchen oh, and the bulbs are still going....touch wood.

Nice design -shame about the bulbs!
I had read previous reviews before buying this today in store. Very pleased with the design and suitability for my study - well made and quite easy to install.
Problem? One light bulb has already failed with less than an hour of use and despite using the clever 'no touch' pad to fit the bulbs. Would it be better to supply without bulbs at a slightly lower price and allow customers some choice in which bulbs to buy? I'd still be happy to buy this again although I'm going to order a complete set of LEDs now.
