The charge for this service includes the removal and recycling of mattresses and divans only, and not bedsteads or headboards.

Please note that we reserve the right to refuse to collect any item we believe constitutes a health and safety risk to our employees, or anyone working on our behalf.

Mattresses and divans will be broken down into their constituent parts and around 98% of this material will be sold for re-use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Great product, but poor customer service The bed itself seems good quality and is a good match to the mattress recommended to accompany it. The drawers fit well and slide in and out with ease and are in a good position. However, when the bed was being delivered, it was half way up the stairs when I noticed that the plastic wrapping had torn and the base was quite dirty where the hole was. It seemed to rub off quite easily, but one of the delivery men then spotted a tear in the material on the drawer. I said they would have to take it back and then he offered me a 15% discount if I kept it. I wasn't sure what to do but in the end I decided to take the discount as I thought I could probably mend it if I bought some matching thread, and I really didn't want the expense of taking another day off work. He made a call to verify this discount, wrote it on a docket of some kind and I signed that I agreed to the discount (no copy for me, only for him to give to 'head office'). When my husband got home he also noticed that the flimsy plastic edging round one of the drawers was broken (which he was annoyed he'd have to glue) It was likely that these faults were there due to rough handling in the warehouse. One week later, and no 15% refund, I phoned John Lewis customer service who say there is no record on my delivery of my bed base being faulty, or indeed of any offer of discount. My guess is now that the delivery men did not feel like reloading a heavy bed base in a van and the offer of discount and the 'phone call' were all invention and that the form I signed went straight in the bin and they were hoping that I'd assume it would all happen automatically and wouldn't chase it up. I phoned about this nearly two hours ago when I was told that a 'manager' would phone me back in a few minutes. I really did expect better of John Lewis. 13 February 2015
