Rated 1 out of 5 by djg303 BEWARE - cannot be disassembled...
I bought this bed for my young son about three years ago and it has been great (not sure I'd recommend it for an adult, but for a child it's fine). However, I came to disassemble it recently only to discover that this is practically impossible. On each black plastic section that is used to join the ends of the wooden slats to the metal frame, there are two "plugs" that go into holes in the frame. When you come to remove these, they simply break. I know what you're thinking - I'm probably just clumsy - well, I was extremely careful when trying to remove them, employing a number of different techniques and several different tools, but all to no avail (I have three usable plastic end sections left - the rest are now useless). I guess it's possible mine were incorrectly manufactured but I suspect this is probably a basic design flaw. Anyone considering buying this bed should be aware of this (I assume the majority positive reviews are from owners yet to attempt disassembly). It's an OK bed if you never want to disassemble it, but I do, and now I simply have a collection of scrap metal and wood.....and no bed.
John Lewis customer services were unwilling to help, offering only to sell me replacements of the plastic sections (which are flawed by design). The product description should clearly state "Not suitable for disassembly" or similar....

I purchased this bed for my 3 year old as he had out grown his toddler bed. After reading some of the reviews about the bed slats i was slightly concerned but there was no need. Each slat fixes to the bed and a metal rod secures in the middle. I put this bed together on my own in no time, very easy indeed. This bed is perfect! And for the price isn't unbelievable good value. Very happy customer :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by BenGriffiths Fantastic, can't complain!
I have had this product for 2yrs. It was fairly easy to assemble; as I remember was easier with two people.
After letting one of my sizeable beast of a friend (130kg) sit on one end a slat did break but did not effect the comfort or future durability.
For the cost the quality is great and you really can't complain.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Tereza Looks good but...
I bought this bed for my 15-year old son. It looks good but it is only good to lie in, not to sit on. When he is sitting on the bed, the slats bend so much that they fall through, so we have to turn them around and put back. If we don't turn them around, they fall through even if he lies on the bed. It happens all the time and my son is not heavy at all. It is a shame.

We have not noticed any of the concerns about losing its shape when pulled that are mentioned by others. Perfect bed for our box room. Strong, simple construction and unbelievably good value. Looks and feels like it cost a lot more

Rated 1 out of 5 by JohnnyRover Not fit for purpose
It's difficult to see how this bed attracts such positive comments. It is probably the worst product I have ever bought. Only one review refers to the design flaw that makes it simply not fit for purpose. There is nothing in the construction that holds the right angles in the horizontal plane at 90 degrees. Hence the assembled bed frame does not maintain a rectangular shape. Most of these single beds will be used in the corner of a small room. Grab hold of the bottom of the bed to move it away from the wall to fit a sheet and the rectangle becomes a parallelogram. There is movement a full 7 inches in each direction (14 inches total). This is despite using special equipment to tighten the screws more than the supplied Allen key allows. Very frustrating as all it would take would be the addition right angled brackets in each corner to make the assembly rigid. Apart from the incovenience of having to square up the bed every time it is moved, the constant strain on the two screws at each corner will inevitably mean that over a short period of time the screws will either work loose or shear. Obviously I returned my bed for a refund. When doing so I took the opportunity to examine the similar bed on display. Unsurprisingly it also had the same problem.
