John Lewis Vesper 5 Spotlight Ceiling Bar, Chrome
I have to say I have never written a review about something before but in the case of this light fitting I feel a need to express my extreme disappointment.
The bulbs do not last long, are virtually impossible to buy and are extremely difficult to remove from the fitting. Of the ones I have managed to remove the glass has come off and in some has broken - surely this is dangerous and I am very surprised that Peter Jones is still selling the fitting. I still have bulbs in the fitting that have no glass on and I have no idea how to remove them. I have now decided to replace the fitting as replacing the bulbs seems to be impossible! A real waste of money buying the fitting and paying an electrician to fit it as I now have to repeat the process and expense.

Blows bulbs; virtually impossible to replace
Such an attractive light is let down by three things
1. Bulbs seem to blow more often than any fitting I've ever known
2. Replacement bulbs are almost impossible to source from anywhere - takes a mini gu10 that I can never find
3. Removal of the bulb is very difficult and involves smashing the bulb and using wire cutters to grab and twist
I popped into a JL store in Welwyn and the chap apologised for the lack of availability of bulbs and suggested using a doctor's latex glove to remove bulbs (who knew!). Currently I have 2 light fittings with only 5 bulbs working between the two. Very disappointed.

Very poor quality
Life long John Lewis customers here and disappointed to have bought this product some months ago without reading the reviews reporting the quality problems - why is this product still sold if customer reviews are encouraged? One of the bulbs blows continually. I suspect the bulb housing causes too much heat to build up. Bought a different light yesterday from JL and today returning this item in the hope JL will refund our money.

Poor quality product
This is the first time I have written a review on any product I have bought; but considering the 2 years of pain I’ve experienced with this product, I would like other potential customers to avoid the same pain.
We bought 3 of these ceiling bars in November 2011 and had them fitted by a qualified electrician. Quite quickly around 5 of the bulbs blew and proved virtually impossible to replace (in fact only 2 bulbs could be), either the glass faces come off the bulb, or they prove impossible to extract from the bulb fitting using the 'special' bulb removal tool (I've purchased a seperate bulb removal tool just to ensure the first wasn't faulty and this didn't help).
So at the moment we only have 4 spotlights working out of 15 and no way of remedying other than taking down the light fittings and replacing them. It’s been incredibly frustrating. I am surprised this product continues to be stocked despite the number of adverse reviews.

Looks good but is hopeless. Do not buy.
As a previous reviewer says it is difficult to change lamps. Pliers are needed to get the dud lamp out and they blow regularly. We have two 5 lamp bars and one single lamp fitting. Have had to change 2 lamps in the last two days. The lamps are hard to find - I buy on Amazon as JL weren't stocking them last time I looked and the electrical wholesaler didn't have them - they are small diameter - not the more normal 35mm ones.
Having made sure that all lamps are working they still do not give a good light.

Incredibly difficult to replace bulbs
This product looks good, is easy to fit and gives good light. However ........ the bulbs are incredibly difficult to replace. And all five bulbs needed replacing within 12 months. I ended up taking the bar down from the ceiling to replace the bulbs. And even then I needed to detach the lenses from the dud bulbs and use pliers before I succeeded in removing them. Fitting a new bulb was almost as difficult. It took me more than an hour to replace three bulbs.

Extremely shoddy product
I purchased two of these recently - they are difficult to fit and the bulbs which are almost impossible to insert blow frequently. This is an extremely poorly designed and specified product and it is puzzling that a reputable retailer would stock it, let alone continue to do so. What is also puzzling is that the negative review that I submitted to this site over a month ago has not yet appeared on the JL website.
