Chose this basket for its overall look and excellent value for money. The only disappointing thing is the poor quality of the mattress.

Rated 1 out of 5 by NewMum2015 You get what you pay for: mattress unuseable
We bought this for daytime naps and travelling. The basket itself is lovely however the mattress is awful, I've seen thicker bubble wrap. After 5 uses it curled and sank so badly it was unsafe to use and our little one couldn't get any sleep in it. The mattress cover is difficult to get on and off, meaning you have to fold it, hastening the demise of the mattress. We have bought a different, more functional mattress from elsewhere. I didn't expect john lewises edit of products to include such a poor one.

Lovely moses basket, and the price is very reasonable for the product. However, the mattress is really thin and not comfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CeriP Very good except the mattress
Love this moses basket, sturdy and well made. Waffle fabric elements are well put together and fit the basket well meaning they do not flap about. The mattress however is below par. A very simple, very thin piece of foam with a weird fabric removable cover. Mattress not quite big enough for basket and not convinced it provided much support for baby. I have bought a properly waterproof mattress from Mothercare, fits perfect and now really happy with the basket.

We have now been using this Moses basket for less than 8 weeks. We were initially pleased with it and it appeared a good purchase for our newborn. However, a few drawbacks: 1. The hood - it never stays up so we ended up removing it as it had no purpose. 2. The handles - the material is so stiff and was so bent into the basket when we received it that it was difficult to move them so they weren't leaning into the basket with the baby - an obvious risk of entanglement with baby's arms etc. Now having tried to gently bend the handles so they stay out of the basket the handles have just snapped.
Again, I realise there is no functional purpose to either of these features but it is disappointing and certainly not the usual standards nor quality you would expect from john lewis, especially for a product aimed at new born babies, and one that I would expect to last a fair few months.
Good job our baby is growing fast and soon to be moved out of this basket.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Abbies Size - be careful
Just a word of warning. I bought this Moses basket in 2012 for my first child and loved it. Expecting my second this year I wanted to reuse the basket and buy a new mattress. And bought the mattress size recommended online. I was assured in store as one of their best selling items this Moses basket had not changed however the mattress size recommended here is way too big.
The basket must have changed since 2012 as the old model requires the 66x29cm mattress
JL now refusing to refund original mattress bought even though it was bought on their advice
