John Lewis XT3 Cross Trainer
After two years of use
My partner and I use our xt3 cross trainer 6 days a week and after two years of use there have been no problems. The machine is rock solid and quiet; all the resistance and programmed functions work perfectly. Couldn't be happier with it.

John Lewis XT3 Cross Trainer
I have had 3 faults with this product since delivery in Feb 2012. Quality is not good. The control panel went faulty, plastic cover split and now non of the programmes work making it unusable. The third fault I reported on 26//712 and the John Lewis agent asked me to call the maintenance company and this number has been unobtainable.
Overall this product is not fit for purpose, let down by the build quality.

Amazing for the price, great JL service
This is a good machine at a price point above trashy machines (that I know I’d give up on and then they’d gather dust), but below professional gym equipment (which I wasn’t going to pay for). The stride length suits me, and the floor space footprint is small.
The first machine that was delivered was actually damaged (plastic bits broken). Without any quibble at all, John Lewis arranged for it to be replaced - brilliant, particularly as the machine lives on the 4th floor.
After putting together the new one, I then encountered another problem: the heart rate monitor was giving very inaccurate readings: up to 30-40 bpm out. Again, John Lewis were helpful on the phone, and in the end they put me in direct contact with Johnson fitness (who make them). Johnson sent an engineer out to have a look at it, who found exactly the problems I had reported, and tried the same things I had tried. They sent a new console, which didn't solve it. Despite the lack of success, I found Johnson to be as helpful as they possibly could be.
In the end I concluded that I wasn't bothered about the heart rate function. I don’t think hand grips are that accurate. I keep my Polar watch strapped to the handle bars, which solves it for me.
Some users have reported the machine to be squeeky and wobbly. I noticed that too during my second session, but then I realised the two large bolts on the front floor support need to be done up really tight. I just retighten them every few uses, and now my machine is super quiet. Also need to tighten up footplate bolts by hand every now and then.
In sum: I am still absolutely delighted – it serves its purpose well. I've had it for a few months. I use it most days, and I have to confess that that means I have already got better value from this purchase than I have from any annual gym membership. Also worked through a few DVD boxed sets with the TV in front of it!

Not without problems
Had this for only three weeks before the console button started sticking, making it difficult to turn on/off. Complained to John Lewis and whilst I was waiting for a replacement the pulse facility stopped working too.
John Lewis' customer services are what keep me shopping with them, but the manufacturer ( these are made by Johnson's) took another six weeks to finally send a new consule. Hopefully this one will last considerably longer.
Aside from that, the machine feels fairly robust, but does squeak a bit and does have a slight wobble. Fotunately though it also comes with a five year guarantee!

Quality depreciated over time
Purchased this machine in July 2012 and, due to circumstances, did not really use it until September. It is used for one hour a day, six days a week.
Within a few weeks the bolts holding the central column worked loose - so much so that it was wobbling all over the place. We kept tightening them but they worked loose quicker each time.
John Lewis were very good and got the company to come and fix it quickly. This was fine but, again due to circumstance, did not use the machine properly again until January.
In April all the bolts worked loose again - with a worse wobble this time. The bolts were working loose only after about 10 minutes of use. Again John Lewis were great and got the company to come out within a couple of days.
Again, machine was 'fixed', #new bolt hole drilled and all screws tightened.# Within twenty minutes of using the machine after repair the screws worked loose again and the wobble returned.
At the time of writing this review I am waiting for a phone call to arrange for another engineer to call - but I could not recommend this machine and, unless the engineer comes up with a proper cure, I shall be looking for a new, more reliable model

Quiet quality product
I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the machine is! The construction is robust. It looks good too. Oddly, the machine was delivered without any documentation, no assembly document, no purchase or delivery note. I called the customer service and they responded fairly quickly, emailed me the instruction and registered my machine for guarantee. Overall, a good purchase.

Good for the price
The machine is robust and quiet to use, assembled by my husband (and assisted by myself for the part which requires two) fairly quickly. I expect it lacks some of the extras of more expensive models, for example the heart/pulse monitor seems a bit hit and miss but it does what it says on the tin.

Very pleased with purchase!
Having previously used huge 'Precor' cross-trainers in the local gym, I was a little dubious about the resilience of this product. However, it is proving to be great for home use and, for such a small 'footprint', feels perfectly sturdy. We both use it for about ten minutes every day at the moment. You cannot change the angle/ramp but I've become used to this, and there is a good range of resistance which compensates. It was relatively easy for two to assemble (although we nearly threw away the foot-rests as they were so safely embedded in part of the polystyrene packaging!). Delivery was bang on time. Well done again John Lewis!
