Editors Notes
Founded in Leicester in 1965 by Raplh Salem, Jonathan Aston’s bright and bold design were soon picked up by the niggest names of the Swinging Sixties, like Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton.
Salem realised that the knitting machine which produced plain tights could also be used to produce “fashion hosiery”, leading to a wide range of colourful sheer and opaque designs, eye-catching fishnets, striking stripes, prints and tartan checks.
The business continues to produce much of its original design archive, offering a chic and retro look that is always flatteringly feminine.
