Kenwood JKP210 Kettle, White
Features we wanted were a kettle with a fast boil time, flip up lid and cordless and this seemed to fit the bill. However we had to return the first one because after a short while the kettle often switched off before boiling. The replacement was fine for about 18 months then the lid opener broke and the lid no longer opened. Both times the kettle was replaced under warranty and the service from John Lewis was very good.

Started leaking after 2 years - Replaced by Kenwood
I ask very little of a kettle other than it boil water and perhaps do so in an energy efficient manner to boot. This Kenwood kettle performed both elements well until it started to leak from its base after 2 years and 2 weeks of moderate use.
When purchased from John Lewis in September 2011, the kettle only came with a one year guarantee. I probably wouldn't have been too bothered about its failure if this was some generic supermarket appliance, but as it was indeed branded and cost probably three times as much as the aforementioned, I felt compelled to raise the issue with the manufacturer. Here is the subsequent timeline I experienced from first enquiry.
Tues - Contacted Kenwood customer support by telephone
Wed (+1) - Posted Kettle to Kenwood for assessment to determine whether or not a manufacturing issue.
Thu (+2) - Kettle arrived at Kenwood
Wed (+8) - Received a letter from customer support to advise that a new kettle would be shipped to me.
Fri (+10) - New kettle received in post.
Obviously, I have no knowledge on how long this new one may last. Nevertheless, to have a new kettle within 10 days of returning the two-year old defective one feels like pretty good customer service to me and for that Kenwood should be commended.

Had to scrap this after less than 2 years light use- as others have noted, developed a leak from bottom of kettle wall, water getting onto baseplate, near electric input. So would not recommend.

Have just returned from my nearest JL branch. I was told there is no problem with this kettle. Not true. The first one I purchased was returned due to it leaking. A replacement was given as under guarantee. The 2nd one has a jammed lid and cannot be returned as approx 15 months old. Not what you expect JL to be selling. Please remove from your shelves.

what a shame
Loved the design and weight of the kettle however 13 months after purchase it started to leak.
As others have noted it leaks from the bottom of the kettle onto the base. Very dangerous!!
I contacted the technical dept and they were very happy to provide a refund.

I bought this kettle about a year ago because I liked the design and the water level indicator; and the price seemed reasonable. After a few weeks the lid mechanism jammed, so I returned the kettle to John Lewis who replaced it without any quibble. A year on, and the lid is stuck again. And the kettle is leaking. The bulb (indicating that the kettle is on) has also gone. Very disappointing. I've binned it.

Poor value kettle
Like many other reviews, bought this kettle just over a year ago and have a faulty lid and a kettle that leaks. This is not what I would expect from Kenwood or from a product that John Lewis stock. Given the number of reviews reporting this problem, I think John Lewis should stop stocking this model.

I like the ergonomics and overall design of this kettle and have purchased 2 in the past 18 months. The first was returned to Kenwood after over 12 months use (not a JL purchase) with a faulty on off switch. The second one, only 6 months old, has a broken lid mechanism.
Poor quality control and clearly not fit for purpose.
