Q & As

Kilner Jelly Straining Set, 2 Pieces 3.6 5 10 10
Good, though stand could be a bit better This is a very useful product if you are into jellies and other things that need liquid strained out from solids. However, the stand design could be better at this price level. Looking at way the reviews are split (very good or poor, nothing in between) I wonder whether the people who say the legs splay out have the triangular piece at the top of the stand the wrong way up, because then the legs do splay out. Also, the way the legs hook onto the top isn't very robust - it helps to very slightly close the hook opening on the legs with pliers. Otherwise fine, good to have two bags and it will be very useful. 25 November 2014
A great product I don't understand the previous negative reviews. I have been using this product for a while now and have never had a problem. The legs have never collapsed or become unstable in any way on my kitchen worktop and I like the fact that I can use large bowls under the unit. Recently (courtesy of our prolific damson tree) I needed an extra strainer kit. As I was in a hurry and the store was just down the road, I bought the cheaper Lakeland version. A huge mistake. The diameter was so small that my bowls would not fit underneath and the bag hung at such an angle that the liquid ran down the legs. What a mess. I am just off to my local John Lewis to buy another Kilner strainer. Lesson learned. I recommend this product. 23 September 2014
Disappointed Like others I found the stand useless, we used a round tray to help stabilise the legs. The bag works well, but the frame is a terrible design and a total waste of money. I will be asking about a refund, but assume that as I have used it I will not be entitled to one. Advice, do not buy! 01 September 2014
Not a good buy. I found this product totally useless - the legs are very unstable; they splay out and become detached from the triangular frame. This causes the bag to plop into the bowl thus splashing the worktop and wall. Even if you can get it upright and working it cannot be left as it is liable to topple over at any moment. Was this product tested at the developmental stage? 14 April 2014
Easy to put together and works perfectly! I was making a number of jellies so needed a good strainer. When I read the previous review I was a little worried but took the time to review the item in the store. I'm glad I did, the item seemed to work fine. I noticed that if you pull the feet out at the same angles it is nice and secure and still tall enough to sit above a large saucepan. I have since used it for making all my stocks. Just leave it overnight for perfect results. 21 February 2014
Collapsing legs! Automatically go to Lakeland for items such as this but reviews were very poor so after reading reviews on JL's website for this jelly straining set I bought one from JL. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong that lead to me having a very different experience of the set. The legs continually splayed outwards which meant the jelly bag was completely collapsing onto the kitchen counter and then into the bottom of the bowl beneath. The only way I could get the legs to stand upright was to jam them between the kitchen wall, the lip of the sink and against a very heavy food mixer. Once jammed into position the straining set did what it was supposed to do and I now have 6 jams of a very clear and pretty crab apple jelly, but I will be returning today to JL today to hand it back in. There must be something "out there" that works exactly as it should without my having to provide support scaffolding! 15 November 2013
It does the job - But the frame feels flimsy and doesn't inspire confidence. I've used it twice now without problems, however; so it rates a good score so far. 22 October 2013
