Q & As

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superb if a little fiddily the first time out Ok, should have read the instructions as first use, did not see mixture needed 8 hours + to chill prior to churning in the ice cream maker. Also the half and half ingredients took a while to work out via the internet that half full fat milk and half whipping cream is the same as the American half and half ingredient quoted in the Kitchen Aid recipe book. However all this aside, WOWSER first attempt at Banana ice cream a huge success. The only tip is do not add all the mixture into the bowl to churn, as found out it did not go to the consistency stated in the book and appeared to be struggling to churn. By removing half the quality into another bowl, it then became ice cream in a matter of minutes. Transferred to freezer container and then churned the other half. It made a lot, but as it tastes so good, yum! About to try triple chocolate recipe with a twist by adding chocolate fudge brownies into it. Will be fun and hopefully delish! Have read other reviews about storage in freezer, luckily we did not experience the same problem, or so far with the leakage. However, having purchased this at John Lewis, I am assured if there is a problem in the future with the latter, this will be swiftly resolved. Fantastic product from Kitchen Aid and fantastic service pre and (normally) post from John Lewis. 05 February 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Makes great ice cream....BUT..... Worked beautifully the first two times we used it. However after purchasing ingredients for the 3rd batch we found it to be leaking the blue coolant from the outer casing. I had heard of this being an issue with these bowls before so heeded the warning of letting the bowl warm to room temp before cleaning and it still leaked. However John Lewis customer service was excellent and a full refund was given. Avoid this accessory like the plague, a quick internet search can prove this is a known issue which Kitchenaid should be addressing! 26 August 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Leaking blue fluid after 2 uses received as a promotion when buying a mixer. Very disappointed when it started leaking a blue fluid after 2 uses. Kitchen Aid not interested in complaint - been passed on to a promotional group. Seem there has been a lot of problems with this item leaking. 10 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great kit for my ever-expanding range of KitchenAid.... Although my old fridge freezer was too small to accommodate the ice cream maker in the drawer (had to place it directly on the shelf, like one of the other reviewers) I was happy to do that as the resulting ice cream is more than worth that little hassle. My new freezer accommodates the bowl easily and because it is just so easy, so smooth, so quick and any flavour of ice cream or sorbet is now produced with minimal fuss! Only problem is that all that tasty ice cream has to be worked/walked/cycled off again.... 10 August 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Design flaw Love the idea of having an ice-cream maker attachment to my Kitchen Aid and it looks good quality and easy to use. However, as with some other ice cream makers, it is too big to fit inside a normal freezer drawer. I have a Neff fridge-freezer and a liebherr freezer but won't fit in either easily. It will only fit if I remove the lower drawer of the neff freezer and stand it there but other things then have to be stored loose alongside and fall out etc 11 May 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very easy to use! A gift that I thought we'd never get much use from but it's been wonderfully easy to use! With two children who love their ice-cream, we can produce exquisite organic ice cream in every imaginable flavour. 20 August 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant birthday present! I received this yesterday as a surprise birthday present. Obviously I already owned a Kitchenaid as this is an attachment and cannot function independently. Takes up less room than a separate machine and is exceedingly easy to use with a Kitchenaid. My very first ice cream attempt has turned out beautifully if I don't say so myself! Looking forward to trying many new flavours now. No more shop made ice cream in this house. 19 August 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow! I already owned an ice cream maker when I purchased my KitchenAid mixer, however, with increasing dexterity problems was finding it hard work filling it through the small aperture for this purpose. The KitchenAid machiine, being as wide as the regular mixing bowls, makes this part of the proceedings much easier and 100% less messy. The washing up is a breeze, the storage less than an independant machine. Regarding the end product - the world is your oyster. You control the flavourings and the textures are incomparable with anything to be bought in any store. I know everone who writes reviews on 'homemade' states similarly, but I recommend this product 100%. 13 August 2012
