Brand Story

The company that was destined to become LEGO started life as being a small workshop that produced wooden toys, run by Ole Kirk Christiansen in 1932. The name ‘LEGO’ was adopted in 1934, coming from the Danish phrase ‘leg godt’, which means ‘play well’. It wasn’t until 1947 that they started producing plastic toys, with the first version of the now infamous interlocking bricks coming in 1949.
They weren’t quite the bricks that people are used to nowadays, being made from a different material and having a slightly different locking system. It was actually Christiansen’s son Godtfred Kirk that saw the potential for the bricks to become a tool for creative play and in 1958, the modern brick design was born. From this date, despite variation in the design and purpose of individual pieces over the years, each remains compatible in some way with previous pieces. So you could have a LEGO set from 1958 and it would still be completely compatible with a modern set.
Since the 1960, thousands of sets have been released covering everything from Aliens to the Wild West. The only area that the company has never tackled directly is military-themed sets, because Ole Kirk set a policy that they must never make war seem like child’s play. The largest ever LEGO set to date is a scale-model of the Taj Mahal, which was made out of 5922 pieces.
The LEGO Group's motto is ‘det bedste er ikke for godt’, which roughly translates to "only the best is the best". Ole Kirk Christiansen came up with this phrase to encourage workers to always produce the highest quality toys possible.
Nowadays, LEGO makes a vast range of toys for all ages, as well as teaching materials for children, which are distributed in over 130 countries. The company has approximately 10,000 employees and is the world's third largest manufacturer of play materials.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Easy, a Little Expensive I put this set together tonight and wasn't overly impressed. Granted, I may be too old for this set and the build was really easy, which is great for younger builders and/or beginners. I think the price per piece is a little high, given the pieces and two minifigs. I think the pick-up truck should have had tail lights included and the cop should have had the standard issue classic handcuffs. I do like the new, sporty look of the police car which is very accurate. 26 January 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Cool Set! I really like this set alot and I like both the builds for the cop car and the pickup truck both look great and the cop car looks like like a street racer turned into a cop car and the pickup truck is very cool as well and alot better than past Lego pickups in the Lego City line I like the new cop and robber as well and I like the police caution cones that was a good add on as well. I really like this new police set and I can't wait to see what the others will look like. 07 December 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lots of playability! I got this set back in 2012, and it immediately caught my eye; all of the accessories and play features embedded into this model! Minifigures: Nice figs, both pretty much the same and come with dirt bike helmets that can be interchanged with their normal hat. Nothing too special though. Car/4X4: I really like the design of this. The colour scheme has been chosen well, grey and red, and the stickers are worth the hassle. It really resembles a real 4X4 because of the chunky tyres, and the rugged styling of the vehicle including it's lights on top. There's also a trunk that opens up, and can just about squeeze the other minifig in there. Trailer: It hitches up to the car well, or you can have them separate. The storage units work well, although I find the oil can can't fit in, and has to be placed in the trunk of the car. You get the usual spanner, screwdriver etc which are nice. The dirt bikes themselves are very vibrant to the eye in those neon green and orange colours. They include number stickers, but you don't really need them. The minifigures can be put on the bikes easily. The other accessories on this trailer include two dirt bike helmets and some flags/checkpoints so you can 'race'. Overall I would recommend this set to anyone really for the parts assortment or the playability, this set comes out trumps for me. Thanks for reading! 29 August 2013
