Brand Story

The company that was destined to become LEGO started life as being a small workshop that produced wooden toys, run by Ole Kirk Christiansen in 1932. The name ‘LEGO’ was adopted in 1934, coming from the Danish phrase ‘leg godt’, which means ‘play well’. It wasn’t until 1947 that they started producing plastic toys, with the first version of the now infamous interlocking bricks coming in 1949.
They weren’t quite the bricks that people are used to nowadays, being made from a different material and having a slightly different locking system. It was actually Christiansen’s son Godtfred Kirk that saw the potential for the bricks to become a tool for creative play and in 1958, the modern brick design was born. From this date, despite variation in the design and purpose of individual pieces over the years, each remains compatible in some way with previous pieces. So you could have a LEGO set from 1958 and it would still be completely compatible with a modern set.
Since the 1960, thousands of sets have been released covering everything from Aliens to the Wild West. The only area that the company has never tackled directly is military-themed sets, because Ole Kirk set a policy that they must never make war seem like child’s play. The largest ever LEGO set to date is a scale-model of the Taj Mahal, which was made out of 5922 pieces.
The LEGO Group's motto is ‘det bedste er ikke for godt’, which roughly translates to "only the best is the best". Ole Kirk Christiansen came up with this phrase to encourage workers to always produce the highest quality toys possible.
Nowadays, LEGO makes a vast range of toys for all ages, as well as teaching materials for children, which are distributed in over 130 countries. The company has approximately 10,000 employees and is the world's third largest manufacturer of play materials.

Rated 5 out of 5 by A Ferry Good Set *Pun intented on the top This set is a very good set I like the color scheme and im a big fan of how a car and 2 minifigures come with the set. the boat is nice for any lego MOC or city, and the fact that it could fit two cars that is if you stacked them. the minifigures that are included are the ferry sailor and a lady. the sailor is a great minifgure and so is the lady because of her black widow (marvel) hair piece. the car is also a great touch. also it does clearly state on the box boat does not float. anyways feel free to check out my other reviews. and have a great week. 15 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Little Boat While most City sets, while fine sets in and of themselves, are a remake of a remake of a remake of an idea that came out a long time ago. A good example is the fire station that comes out almost every year, changed and improved, but still the same concept. That's why this set caught my eye. Something new! Something that had never been done before. I have been playing with Lego as a hobby for almost 11 years now, and I've never seen a Lego City set like this. Bought it right then as an impulse, and I don't regret it. The set is a rather simple construction, consisting of mainly layered plates and bricks, with some hinge bricks getting the slick sloped profile. The end result looks quite nice, with the life preservers adding some neat detail. The minifigures are very neat, with what I think is a new torso on the ferry pilot and a rare hair piece on the businesswoman, as well as a nifty printed cell phone tile. The stickers look great, and there aren't too many of them. The little sports car is very slick, and the opening ramps are a good touch. Overall, this was an enjoyable if easy little build. I would highly recommend for both the build itself and the nifty parts and accessories. 14 January 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Simple, yet effective and different I really like this set. It is a new, unique vehicle (vessel) in the Lego City Series. I have two similar ferries in my state and this is a great representation. Yes, it doesn't float, but it looks like it is travelling in the deep river carrying vehicles and passengers, making them easy to unload. The color scheme is accurate, and it was fun to build. I wish it came with one more vehicle and/or a motorcycle or bicycle. Maybe one more minifigure. I do wish it had a couple more passenger chairs and a small ladder for the captain. Overall, a great set and great value. 14 January 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by ehhhh The color scheme is poor in my opinion, and as shown on the box, the boat doesnt float. If it came with an optional boat hull piece so it COULD float, or didn't look so...tacky is the best word i can muster right now... i'd reccomend it and give it a higher rating 31 December 2015
