Q & As

LG NB4530A 2.1 Bluetooth Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer 4.3 5 9 9
Excellent Sound Bar After spending some time researching sound bars I decided to purchase the LG NB4530A. Am very pleased with the item the sound quality is excellent and a great improvement over the sound produced by my flat screen TV. The sound is especially good when watching films, I no longer have to turn the volume right up to hear hushed conversations and the subwoofer is great when it comes to the lower tones. Set-up was very easy, I have an older TV which does not have an optical connection, this was not a problem I simply used a 3.5mm jack to phono cable and set the sound bar to portable, the sound came through perfectly. The subwoofer was also very straightforward, I simply plugged it in, switched the sound bar on and it automatically connected wirelessly. Have also used the Bluetooth feature which is great for streaming music, again I found it very easy to pair the sound bar to my ipad and simply clicked play! Installation was very easy using the bracket provided to wall mount, a stand is also provided if not mounting. Finally I would just like to note that the build quality of the bar and sub is first class, it is made with high quality materials and is an attractive item. All in all am very pleased with the product it has upgraded the sound of my TV greatly wiihout intruding in the living room! Can highly recommend. 25 March 2014
Does the job nicely We had been considering a number of options to improve the sound from our new TV (40" Sony Bravia KDL40W905) - not that the sound from that was too bad but all reviewers say you need some additional speakers so we thought why not. I liked the idea of a full audio set up with a string of speakers but in the end did not want the hassle. We went for the LG NB4530A as it had excellent reviews, was not too expensive, it feels well built (all metal), is not too high which could obscure the TV remote, has good connectivity inc HDMI ARC and has a wireless sub-woofer (SW) that can go anywhere (it does need a power lead of course). We are certainly pleased with the overall sound (which is in good sync with the TV picture - no lag) and the SW provides depth without sounding odd or out of place. The set up was very easy. - Connected the bar through a JL HDMI cable to the TV ARC socket and powered it up - Plugged in/ switched on the SW and it automatically linked up with the bar - I did not have to do anything - Found the setting on the TV to look for an external audio which it did quickly. So the Sony TV remote adjusts the LG bar volume and the bar switches on and off with the TV. The only times you need to use the bar remote is to adjust the sound settings (which for us is rarely). - job done I may still go for a full audio set up at some stage in the future when I have more time to way up all the +'s and -'s... 14 March 2014
Excellent enhancement to my tv sound The quality of output from this product significantly exceeded my expectations. Delighted with my choice after considerable amount of research. 29 January 2014
Well satisfied I read some of the reviews on here regarding sound bars and came to John Lewis with an open mind. I asked to speak to someone in the store who could help me out on sound bars and was unbeknown to me given a representative of a sound bar company and unsurprisingly I walked out with their product. I was a little concerned after I purchased it when I found out after asking whether it had a HDMI cable, so at home I left the sound bar still boxed and then went on to the Trusted Reviews website and found the NB4530a sound bar out stripped the box I had bought in both sound, connections, display, remote and price. I recommend people look at the Trusted Reviews site that explains it all in great detail with both experts and users verdicts. This box performs for sound over 9/10. I took my other box (performed 7/20 for sound) back to John Lewis with no problem and purchased the NB4530a, I was a little concerned about the review from the chap below as I have the equivalent 40in TV, UE40b8000 which is a Samsung 8000 series. I agree with the point he made, that the setting up instructions are not clear, describing how to pair up the subwoofer. I too struggled, after it said, ‘press down the stop button and mute on the remote simultaneously and use the pairing on the back of the woofer box’, mainly due to having two mute buttons on the remote and a hidden button inside a tiny hole in the back of the sub woofer lol. But having sorted that, it all worked fine, I played the 'Star Trek into the darkness' film and the quality of sound was superb. I did have an old surround sound system before with a massive box but this new system sounds really good without speakers and wires running under the carpet. The box is nice a low and sits under my TV and doesn’t interfere with the TV remote operations. I’m really pleased with this buy and glad I read the Trusted Reviews on it 28 January 2014
Waste of money Just to warn other people who are dazzled by the performance reviews on this product. Unlike all the rest apparently mine didnt work straight out of the box and in fact has not worked full stop. I have a UE46F8000 with multiple connection options including optical, arc and 3 other regular HDMI sockets. The soundbar lights up but that is as far as it goes. If you still feel the need to spend your hard earned on this product, beware the "user manual" - you would be better served by a copy of the Beano. 23 January 2014
Unbelievable I have a panasonic 42 plasma and I figured I'd give the panasonic offering a go. After ordering a SC-HTB570EBS and setting it up it kind of worked but the weak bluetooth supported was the final reason I sent it back. I then ordered the NB4520A and never was there a better reason not to allow brand loyalty mar your judgement. Its exceeded all my expectations. The only problem is that I think my neighbours will complain because of the noise this thing can pump out. I'm an LG sceptic sue to their TVs tending to upscale and frame insert to the point that the image not longer looks real, but this product has changed my perception of the brand entirely. Some of the expert reviews didn't rate the surround option, I just watched the Dark Knight using this setting and it was like I were in a cinema. While I'm sure that a proper 5.1 setup would be better, the sound does seem to come from all around the room and not only the speaker locations. The only problem is that you get that immersed that you need to be careful not to annoy the neighbours. A lot of the more expensive bars seem to shun hdmi, there is no good reason for this based in physics. This worked out well for be as I'm very happy with a bar that costs half the price of some its optical obsessed counterparts. 05 January 2014
Big improvement One of our favourite TV series, Ripper Street, was almost impossible to hear the quiet, deep East End voices on our Panasonic 42" plasma. It was so bad, we gave up on it but fortunately recorded the whole series. Then along came the sound bar and fantastic, we could hear! We thought long and hard, read all the reviews and considered the much more expensive Sonos and Yamaha options. This doesn't claim to bounce sound off walls and pretend to be a home cinema system. It is basic stereo with an added large but effective subwoofer. The bar sits nicely on a shelf under the TV with an almost exact match in width. The subwoofer sits in the corner behind the TV and we can't see it. You plug in the optical cable and away you go. The sound is clear and the added base effect is a revelation when compared with the original speakers. I had read complaints in some reviews about the bright display light on the front panel of the bar. It is bright but you can switch it off or dim it via the remote. So no problem there then. Another useful feature for us is the wide bar does not need to sit on an equally wide shelf. On our TV stand the shelf under the TV is only 40 cm wide, but the bar fits on it perfectly with the provided stand. Overall, a very good value, competent sound bar. 02 January 2014
Great sound bar! Ideal sound bar for our fairly small living room. Very easy to set up and connected to tv without any problems and also via bluetooth to ipod straight away. The wireless subwoofer connected automatically and sound quality is excellent. Overall very happy. 26 December 2013
