Magimix Ice Cream Maker, 2200 Gelato Chef, White
Magi mix ice cream maker
I am delighted with my brand new ice cream machine.
Very simple to use and easy to clean.
It makes delicious ice cream in 20 mins with the minimum of fuss.

Proceed with caution...
Just got this out after a few months and found the inner, fixed bowl has developed a hole and a crack. Perhaps this was because a small amount of salt was left in it. As far as performance goes, even if you follow all instructions to the letter it only makes a very sloppy ice cream. Still needs to be frozen. Not worth the money.

Not strong enough for the job
Looks good but doesn't do the job without a lot of human intervention. I've been very disappointed with this machine. The drive at the top starts to give out once the mixture starts to thicken up. Instead of the paddle turning the icecream, it causes the top to dislodge and twist around. All you get is a loud click click click as the motor fails to turn the paddle. I now realise that I have to blend the icecream by hand, through its final stages. At least the freezer part works. I definitely would NOT recommend this product. If you're going to spend this sort of money, go for one that has a drive at the bottom. They're meant to be stronger and more efficient.

Poor build quality
Not sure if I've been unlucky with the two magi mix appliances I've bought from JL. I 'd thought for ages about buying this. It's not cheap for a non essential appliance but I knew I didn't want the less expensive ones that need some fore thought! An inspiring trip to Italy and two ice cream mad sons persuaded me it would be worth it. Firstly, it is very, very noisy. Secondly, it's heavy to lift in and out of a cupboard and for hygiene I would suggest it's not left standing on a counter top unless it's covered. Thirdly it does make ice cream relatively quickly but it doesn't freeze to a low enough temperature to allow you to serve it immediately. I find it has to be 'finished' in the freezer otherwise it rapidly resembles sweet soup. Most annoying of all the rather cheap stirring attachment which has a separate motor died just outside the year warranty. It was so expensive to replace I nearly gave up.

Just what I wanted!
I was thrilled to find this under my Christmas tree. Have had a manual churn for years and it was good to free up some space in my freezer! The instructions are refreshingly clear and include some useful recipes. The machine is slightly noisier in operation than I had anticipated but cleans very easily and, more importantly, the ice cream had a lovely texture. I wasn't sure what the capacity would be but it made 1 litre comfortably. Only oddity is the little bucket for making extra amounts - seems just as easy to clean the machine and start again rather than go through the palaver of using the bucket!

Expensive but worth it!
We use this all the time - I make sugar free ice cream with sugar substitute, ice cream for kids and for me - without having to wait between batches for the bowl to re-freeze. It takes a quick wash of the bowl and five minutes to cool down before you are ready again. The machine is noisy but reassuringly so - you know when it is ready! Easy to clean and have saved a fortune on premium brand ice cream - mine is better! The booklet for basic vanilla is great - then add halva, peanut butter, Nutella ... Whatever you fancy! I have made marshmallow and even popcorn ice cream! I also turned homemade tiramisu that was left over into ice cream!

Useful piece of equipment
The bowl doesn't have to be frozen beforehand, which is a plus, but a bigger bowl would be more useful. The ice cream recipe I make uses 500ml Double Cream + fruit syrup, which is too much mixture for the size of the metal mixing bowl. I have had to halve the quantities to fit the bowl. The machine makes good smooth ice cream, it is easy to operate and clean, but is noisy. It is going to become a very useful piece of equipment.

Having used the entry model for many years, I was really excited about 'upgrading' to their top of the range model, with dreams of instant puddings made whilst we eat starters and mains....
Sadly, it really isn't worth almost 10x the price. The device was so noisy I could hear it from two rooms away, and the design is clunky - the mixer motor looks to be the same one that you find in the cheaper model and needs a separate wire to connect it to the device... so poor product integration, that you don't find in other makes. If you're going to spend this kind of money there are better products out there.
