The theme of the Spring Summer13 collection is Lake Elsinore. Named for Hamlet's castle, this Elsinore is in California, an easy drive from Los Angeles. Steve was among many Hollywood stars to decamp there in his leisure time. In 1970, he competed in the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix. Out of 500 riders, he finished in the top ten.
There's something resolutely modernist about Steve's clothing choices; his eye sought out items that were the pinnacle of their form. He eschewed the nouveau luxe and picked pieces from the working man's wardrobe. Good, honest clothing was his rationale, which is no doubt why his cherry picked outfits are so right for right now.
With the Barbour Steve McQueen collection, every piece could have been pulled from Steve's closet, whether it's chinos or chambray shirts, or the authentic A7 Barbour biker jacket, this season in lighter distressed sunbleached fabrics.
The Elsinore scene inspires the collection's sand and sky blue colours and plenty of summer layers. Polo's, hoodies, knits, jeans, tees with iconic Steve McQueen images, chambray and checked shirts all feature strongly promising a summer spent outdoors.
