iPad, nexus, kindle fire or Surface RT?? Like many people, I was totally confused before buying a tablet. Lots of comparisons online, lots of reviews which tell you why one is better than the other! Decided to go for a 32GB Surface RT and I totally love it. If you want to create content on the move, look no further! Feels solid, yet very light (10grams heavier than an iPad). Kick stand is stable. Doesnt get hot, no matter how long you use it for! Bought a microSD card (very cheap now a days) and expanded the memory. Together with my portable hard disk (connected via the USB 2 slot) I have all my data with me all the time. Touch type cover is brilliant. Took me a few hours to get used to it. Battery life is very good. With moderate usage you can get away with charging it every 3 days!! I am used to the magsafe charger in a mac and found this slighlty annoying as it is not that smooth to plug it in. MS office is fantastic to use, specially with the touch screen. IE10 is easy to use and no issues with streaming videos that use flash player (iPad users suffer). Multi tasking in the true sense of the word, can have two programmes running in parallel (divide screen into two) and I dont think iPad or nexus or kindle will let you do that. Touch screen response is as good as any other tablet in the market. Having used an iPad, I think it might be slightly faster in terms of performance but the Surface does not lag behind. Have to say the app store is probably not the best but improving everyday. I use it almost as a laptop substitute for both work and fun. Watching videos on it is brilliant and xbox music is as good as spotify and lets you listen to unlimited music for 6 months and 10 hours per month thereafter for free. In all, I would recommend the Surface RT to someone who wants that little bit more out of their tablet. (Remember: Surface RT IS A TABLET AND NOT A LAPTOP. You are restricted to the app store just like the apple store or amazon strore with an iPad or Kindle fire). 09 May 2013
Awesesome versatility at a reasonable price Had one for 3 months now and it is an amazingly versatile piece of kit. In the past few months I've used it to watch movies & play games on a transatlantic flight; watched Netflix in some US hotel and listened to an endless amount of music. When work time came an adequate version of MS Office, plus a Bluetooth mouse and the touch keyboard did sterling service. If that wasn't enough I plugged in a USB keyboard & a proper monitor, and used remote desktop back to my PC in London. BTW you can also plug in a wireless xBox controller for games! Of course any mobile computer is a compromise, so read the pretty clear notes on the MS website as to it's limitations. - but will improve for sure (there have been many valuable updates already ). This is v1 of the next type of hybrid computing - there will be a v2 but I'm delighted with what I've got today. 06 May 2013
Excellent product I am delighted with this product. I have an apple laptop but too heavy to carry at work. I wanted something ligth, something that I could use for work like plannings ...Something I could use for reading books, listen to music or play my favourite game on zynga. i tried a Nexus and an Asus but none of these tablets could do what i wanted especially for working or playing my games. The microsoft tablet let me copy my files and print them at home. I just hope that I will be able to print my files at work. I also played my favourite game. I like the keyboard, tricky at first because I was used to use an apple keyboard. I have finally found the product suitable for my needs. 03 April 2013
mixed In essence, it will not replace a pc unless you want very little from a pc. It's great in many ways, but with some major flaws. Not running full windows limits it to the apps, which are not all sorted yet; eg the music player, Xbox music, won't fully recognise the sd card. This may not matter to a lot of people but it's a big and unnecessary limitation for me. Other aspects are slowly improving, and I wouldn't return it, but wish I'd waited for the pro version. 26 March 2013
Excellent concept but needs work Overall this product offers everything you need as a basic computer. However it does have some very disappointing features. To start it comes with the most annoying keyboard possible, there aren't any keys on it which make typing difficult and errors are frequent as well as having keys 'stick' down. Another problem with this and I presume all other Windows tablets is that all accounts get linked in. For example it is impossible to sign out of Skype and you have to make a new account for anyone else to use it and everyone's birthdays from social network sites etc. appear in your calendar and cannot be deleted. All sorts of little things like this occur. Finally games and apps are limited and expensive. You can't use this as a family computer as once you link accounts and sign into them they are 'set in stone'. Only after 3 months do you realise what you can an can't do. Overall I am disappointed with this for the price and would not recommend this product. 26 March 2013
Great product Was not sure what to replace my laptop with but in the end I bought the Surface. I wanted to work and play and boy it does both. The whole family are impress with it. More than pleased Just love it. 17 March 2013
good news Bought my surface 4 week's ago and have been waiting for the update to release the inbuilt flash player for non restricted use.....and found it is finally here. This makes the Surface a better choice than my iPad for me. Found the keyboard surprisingly responsive .....but you can always leave the keyboard at home it you don't get on with it or prefer to use the touchscreen 100% of the time. I recommend it. 16 March 2013
Good but dont expect to watch I Player Its a good machine but far from perfect, the amount of things it won't let me watch is high, the are tons of websites with media it wont show, I player for example The standard keyboard is ok the build quality is good and its not too heavy. They should say t wont support certain products 16 March 2013
