Q & As

Miele KFN12923 SD-2 Fridge Freezer, A++ Energy Rating, 60 cm Wide, White 1 5 1 1
Nothing but problems! When replacing our old AEG fridge freezer I didn't hesitate in buying a Miele one. I already had a Miele washer, dishwasher, tumble dryer and vacuum cleaner and was convinced I was choosing one of the most reliable and best engineered products on the market. I have never had a single problem with any of my other Miele appliances. How wrong could I be about the fridge freezer? The first one was faulty from the start...a day after plugging it in the alarm sounded and the temperature lights started flashing, signifying that the temperature was rising in both the freezer and the fridge compartments. Miele sent an engineer out who quickly identified that it had been damaged in transit. It could not be repaired and so a new one was placed on order for me. That was early 2010. Fast forward to August 2013 and I just happened to be woken in the middle of the night by the alarm sounding and the -18*C light flashing, signifying that, once again, the temperature was rising in the freezer compartment! I checked the ventilation ducts were clear, that the drainage channel wasn't blocked, that the back of the appliance was clean and free from dust, and everything else the handbook recommended. I also tried a 'manual defrost', as recommended by the customer services adviser at Miele, in the hope it might reboot it. Unsurprisngly, none of this worked. Hence, I am now waiting for the Miele engineer to pay me another visit...whilst feeling more than a little miffed about the Miele call out charge and a whole fridge and freezer full of food that is slowly and steadily going off! Why didn't I take out the warranty and extra cover you might ask? Well, one of the reasons I bought an expensive Miele appliance is because I expected it to last well beyond the warranty period and did not expect it conk out after three years. Would I ever buy a Miele fridge again? Absolutely not. 12 August 2013
