Fire OS 3.0 Mojito
Kindle Fires run on Amazon's exclusive 'Fire' operating system. Fire OS uses Google Android and customises it to give you the fastest access to your favourite apps and Amazon services. Fire OS's home screen prioritises the apps and content you've used most recently to make them easily accessible in Carousel or Grid views. You can also swipe from app to app thanks to the side-swipe feature, which will flick between your open apps without having to navigate to the home screen.
Fire OS includes support for printing directly from you Fire and accessibility tools such as Screen Reader, Explore By Touch and Screen Magnifier to help you get the most out of your Kindle Fire HD. It also comes with a variety of apps, including enhanced e-mail and Amazon's ultra-fast Silk web browser, which can help give you a browsing experience customised for your needs, whether it's in text only 'Reading Mode' or helping you access your favourite content in as few taps as possible.

Perfect for the entire family
Kindle Fire HD comes with plenty of apps for adults to enjoy, however, it's also ideal for kids. Kindle FreeTime is a service designed to help parents look after their child's tablet experience and give them peace of mind. You can create a profile for each of your children and choose which content they have access to, giving them a kid-friendly design and access only to content you're allowing them to see. You can also set daily limits on how long they can use their Kindle Fire HD for, or restrict certain categories, like games, while leaving unlimited reading time. It's also light enough for a child to hold comfortably and features a durable display, so you can let your child play without worry.

Books, movies, music and more
As well as apps and games, available from the Amazon Appstore, Kindle Fire HD provides access to some of the best consumable content available.

  • The Kindle Store features over 2 million books available for download, including free, public domain classic like Pride and Prejudice and Oliver Twist. It also includes over 600 magazines and newspapers, so you can keep up with the latest goings on or get the best fashion tips directly through your device. If Audiobooks are more your thing then Audible has more than 100,000 titles from bestselling authors available for download.
  • Amazon's LOVEFiLM subscription service will provide instant streaming of thousands of popular films and TV series using a wireless internet connection. With features like Whispersync, which will allow you to pause and then resume watching on a different device and X-Ray, which gives you instant access to trivia from IMDb, you'll be able to enjoy a much richer viewing experience on Kindle Fire.
  • Amazon's MP3 music store features over 20 million songs from thousands of artists for streaming or download. It will also give you free digital copies of any CDs you've previously bought from Amazon thanks to Amazon's AutoRip service, so you don't need to rebuy them or rip them yourself.

Amazon also provides unlimited cloud storage for all of your Amazon content, so you can re-download your favourite book or stream your entire music collection whenever you want, as long as you're connected to the internet. You can also upload the first 250 tracks of your personal music library for free and save up to 2,000 photos on free 5GB of cloud storage.

very good product Good product, easy to use. shame it dos'nt have a camera 21 January 2014
Value For Money Entry Level Tablet The Kindle Fire is an interesting little tablet. There are some great advantages to this device over a basic eReader - you get access to the internet, games, music, films and much more, as well as books, of course. It's also very, very simple to use. There are no complicated menus to navigate, the user interface is very intuitive, simple English is used for as many options as possible, and you can't "lose" a book or an app if you accidently remove it from the tablet - any content you buy from Amazon is easily re-downloaded from their cloud storage. The price is very good too - selling at more or less cost. However, there are a couple of drawbacks to the Kindle Fire. The internal storage cannot be expanded. Unlike many other tablets in the same price range, there is no camera. Amazon's app store is a lot more limited than it's competitors' - although many of the most well-known apps have been made available. Most importantly, however, is the fact that the screen of the Kindle Fire is almost impossible to read outside on a bright, sunny day - the biggest selling point of the basic Kindle eReader - but this trade-off is necessary for a screen than can vividly display HD movies and full colour photgraphs. Despite its drawbacks, the Kindle Fire is still a good entry level tablet. It's uncomplicated and unfussy. It's ideal for people without a lot of experience with tablets and touchscreens; who want something they can learn to use in a matter of hours or days, rather than weeks. It's ideal for children, because it looks grown up, but still offers age-appropriate content with excellent parental controls. It's a good choice for anyone looking for a very basic media/entertainment device. Most importantly, it's inexpensive, and very good value for money. 09 January 2014
