Key benefits:

  • The D800 features Nikon's original FX-format CMOS image sensor offering 36.3 megapixels for detailed shots that look terrific, even when enlarged. It also incorporates EXPEED 3 image processing for subtler tones.

  • It offers superior picture quality and enhanced low-light performance through a wide ISO sensitivity range ofISO 100 to 6400. ISO-equivalents 25,600 and 50 are also available.

  • Never miss a moment again. The D800 has a continuous shooting speed of up to 4 frames per second in FX/5 mode.

  • Stills are great, but sometime you need to tell the whole story. 1080p Full HD video capture gives you broadcast quality footage and the uncompressed HDMI output means everything looks exactly the way it should on the big screen.

  • 3D Colour Matrix Metering III gets the right exposures in just about any lighting situation, while full-time face recognition gets your subject just right every time.

  • A Multi-CAM 3500FX autofocus sensor features 51 AF points giving you fast, efficient and precise autofocus.

  • A built-in pop-up flash with Nikon's dependable i-TTL flash control ensures that you’re photos will always be caught in their finest light.

  • The D800 comes complete with the included Nikon ViewNX 2 software which makes browsing and organising your images easy.

Q & As

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Awesome Camera!! For new starters and studio Boffins Great Camera, easy to use , easy to handle. Another thing I love is also one of the things I hate too is the file size. The 36 megapixel sensor is awesome. The files look amazing on my display. Aside from the obvious advantages of being able to print large, I think there’s more to it. I mean, it’s just plain cool to have that kind of file size and detail available to zoom in to. Let’s face it, if you’re a photographer then you’re a visual person. Aesthetics and visual experiences matter. Even if you’re not printing the photo that large, editing a photo with that kind of detail is just fun and visually stimulating. I may not always print the photo as large as I can, but it’s sure nice knowing that I can. Only downside to that is the storage size. 200 pics would use up near 10gigs of space, so an extra large hard drive would be a must. 25 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Value/Best Image Quality FX Camera On The Market I have now owned my D800 for about 15 months graduating from the very creditable D700. I am still totally blown away with this camera and the results achieved with it on a daily basis. It is simply in my view, not only the best value for money FX camera currently on the market but also produces the best images achievable on a digital SLR camera. Yes you need to have top quality glass to achieve the results but the same is true with all cameras. Yes the raw files are huge, but additional storage for computers is massively cheap these days. if you purchase this camera you will never regret it if you want to consistently achieve quality sharp images, even when massively cropped. 24 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Camera in the World ? I have been a Nikon user for almost 40 years, this is without doubt the best DSLR I have ever owned or used. It is heavy but lighter than the D700 which has replaced. Full HD video is also included which can be recorded on a second card as the camera has both SD & CF card slots I recommend a min of 32gb especially if you shoot RAW. Fantastic resolution at 36mp make this an incredible camera 05 June 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nikon D800 EXCELLENT CAMERA. The best camera ever. It is smaller and ligher than most professional grade cameras which makes it ideal to take with you outside. I only wish John Lewis offered 3 and 5 year extended warranty on this product. This camera is not cheap so extended warranty is a must in my view. 07 May 2012
