Product information

The Orbitsound is a sound bar and subwoofer combo that delivers huge sound from a small package. Perfect for listening to music or TV sound from a second room or smaller TV set, the Orbitsound M9 powers out startling high definition sound from it’s incredibly small footprint. Along with easy-to-use Bluetooth streaming, it’s ready to add a whole new dimension to your media.

Key benefits:

  • Spatial Sound Technology (SST) uses side firing speakers and proprietary sound encoding to radiate sound throughout the room. The M9 creates a spatial sound environment that fills your space, so ALL listeners enjoy the soundscape wherever they are sitting.
  • The M9 comes with a high power, low profile, high-speed wireless digital subwoofer. The ultra-low latency 2.4GHz connection means that the sound is always in-sync with the sound bar, delivering a seamless sound, yet with the flexibility of wireless operation, and the high fidelity of a lossless digital connection. Extremely slimline, it can be positioned anywhere within eight metres of the sound bar (completely out of sight if required).
  • High quality Bluetooth streaming to the sound bar from any compatible Bluetooth device means simple wireless enjoyment of streamed or stored media. The M9 manages your Bluetooth connection cleverly. Simply press the Bluetooth button (or press play from the included remote control), and the M9 will ‘grab’ your device’s Bluetooth connection and continue playback.
  • This combo is made of wood for superior acoustic resonance. The soundbar is deep high gloss and finished with a metal front grille that sits on damping mounts. The subwoofer is finished in a tough matt finish to prevent unwanted marking.
  • The M9 features digital amplifiers and wireless power control to save energy on standby or when it’s idle. The M9 will wirelessly shut down the subwoofer and resume it when it is needed and minimise its own power needs as much as possible.
  • Easy connection to a TV is possible through the included optical cable that delivers digital clarity of whatever TV, film, game or music is being watched on the TV. Other connections include mixing analogue inputs on RCA and jack, allowing connection to almost anything. Bluetooth provides a wireless connection point.
  • Includes: M9 sound bar, low profile wireless subwoofer, remote control, User’s guide, quick start guide, TOSLINK digital optical cable, 3.5mm stereo jack cable, RCA audio/video cable, power cords.

Q & As

Orbitsound M9 Bluetooth Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer 3.1 5 22 22
Disappointing Already own the Orbitsound T12 so had high expectations for the M9 for use on a smaller TV. Very disappointed in the sound quality (lack of bass), Bluetooth (sub woofer kept dropping signal), and ghosting/echo sound. Also the laminate cover of the sub woofer was damaged. Excellent service from John Lewis (as always) but my search for a small sound bar continues. 18 March 2014
Wow where have the floor speakers gone! I bought the soundbar to replace the floor speakers and wiring trailing round the floor. The soundbar with its sub-woofer is a real good replacement and we have all that floor space now. 11 February 2014
Dreadful! wish we had read reviews beforethis impulse buy! Agree with previous comments re inability to see volume or anyadjustmentson screen so pure guesswork! connection drops constantly and sound not great. Only had it one day and its back in the box ready to return! 21 January 2014
Good so far We had the other reviews in mind when we bought the Sound Bar, but so far we've been pleasantly surprised. The sound is good for the money and fills our living room, which isn't huge. We've used it with Bluetooth without any issues so far (albeit we've only had the device for a few days). My advice would be to listen to it in store (which we did in Reading) and, if you're happy, take the risk with JL's excellent customer service/warranty in mind. I knew if we had/have an issue we could always send the unit back without any issue. So far so good though. 18 January 2014
Excellent product I have to say I am totally surprised at the negative reviews for this product. This is an excellent bit of kit that produces excellent sound in a compact package, as good as any larger sound bar and it is a worthwhile purchase to upgrade the built in speakers on any TV. I have experienced none of the problems described by other reviewers, the odd drop out of Bluetooth connection when moving around with the playing device but then that should be expected with Bluetooth. Certainly no problems with the sub woofer dropping out. I have contacted Orbitsound direct for a couple of bits of advice regarding set up and they have been first class and prompt with their replies. 17 January 2014
Very very disappointing We have a smallish flat screen television with poor sound quality and so bought this sound box and looked forward to a transformed viewing and listening experience. We also bought it because of the bluetooth feature - which would give us the opportunity to listen to music stored on our iPhones as well as the world radio app. Connsidering the published power of the amplifyer the sound quality was average and not particularly loud - so that was disappointing - but more disappointing was the way in which the bluetooth connection kept dropping in and out - making it unlistenable too (and I realise now that I should have read previous reviews as this is clearly a fault of this machine). We returned the unit and bought a cd player for less than half the price. The sound quality is excellent and certainly bettere than the Orbit machine; there is an audio input so we can use it for the television sound and the bluetooth is perfect - and never drops out! 17 January 2014
Bluetooth keeps dropping I bought the orbit sound M9 for my teenage son for Christmas and initially he was delighted with the sound when it was plugged into the TV but when he used it through Bluetooth with his iPod (which is the reason for buying this particular model) the music kept dropping and couldn't listen to a song all the way through without it dropping all the time. John Lewis were great and collected the faulty system and replaced it with another but unfortunately this is also dropping using Bluetooth. We contacted orbit sound customer service tel: 0845 5390078 and they said they would send us a Bluetooth booster but unfortunately we are yet to receive it!!! Seems as though this 2nd one will have to go back. 05 January 2014
Garbage! After much deliberation in store, I was assured by the salesman that this sound bar was the best in it's class and had a far superior build quality to others in this price range. Despite not liking the aesthetics of the unit I decided to buy it as sound quality was more important than looks. Set up was quick and easy and when I first turned the unit on the sound quality was excellent. However... Firstly, the subwoofer repeatedly dropped it's wireless connection and was cutting in and out whilst trying to watch a film. (It was only 3m from main unit and had line of sight) Secondly, when playing music via bluetooth the connection kept dropping in and out rendering the unit all but useless. Thirdly, I've just turned it on to watch another film and the unit is making a loud rasping sound like there's a small angry helicopter in my living room! I will be returning the unit and won't waste my time with Orbitsound again! I just wish I'd read the reviews first, seems like I'm not the only one. 03 January 2014
